Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Tuesday 30 January 2018

Down to 12 on CC. Number 67 has aloped to Gelvert!

    Only 12 currently on CC:

All looking well with no issues to report.

All found in the gorse near military in S6 not far from main track

Finishing off the last lick near the 1st reservoir Q14

    Sunday 28 January 2018

    All 12 on Sunday afternoon

All 12 were around H23 mid afternoon - some moving towards Bourley Road and finding trees for a good scratch.  They seemed calm and well and not to miss their buddy (one of the blacks) who has hopped into Gelvert.

    Sunday morning

Eight cows seen, in the distance from the lookout, down by Bourley Road.

    Friday 26 January 2018

    Friday afternoon - 11 of 13 found

I found all but 67 and 93 eating gorse and heather on the slopes between the lookout and Horse Pond. One of them (Barry I think it was) had somehow got himself right into the middle of a dense gorse bush. I couldn't get in there, so I don't know how he did. It looked painful to me, anyway, he must have a thick hide! Maybe the missing two were similarly ensconced somewhere. All looking fine to me, as usual.

    Tuesday 23 January 2018

Full house. Spread over the lake next to Q14. Called them in and dropped off a lick.

The lick is in the heather about 10m off the track. The smaller red and whites were farther away on the banks nearest the lake before i gatheted them.

    All looking  very well.

940 (blue) was straight into the lick  and ruled the  roost, which was suprising considering shes not the biggest by a long shot, proving that its not all about the size of your horns!

067 (black with no horns) just as shy and skittish as normal. Got a good 4-5m flight zone at least, the  rest will at come and investigate and give you a sniff at least.

    Thursday 18 January 2018

    Thu 18th

I was out on Caesar's Camp today doing mapping work and came across the whole herd adjacent to the pond, near the Shell garage. All were in good condition.

    Wednesday 17 January 2018

    Wednesday morning.

Lick put out this morning on sandy hill grassy fire break

    Tuesday 16 January 2018

    Early Tuesday morning

I found the whole heard early this morning at about 8.30.  All were right down by Bourley Road off of the metalled track way called Sunny Hill Road, they were all browsing the laurel that surrounds the technology offices in the grounds of the Queens Pavilion.

    All look fine.

    Sunday 14 January 2018

    Busy on the ranges

We walked for about an hour and a half around the Horse Pond and Caesars Camp and found no cows, though it was very busy with lots and lots of dog walkers and cyclists. Eventually, just as we finished our walk ,we found three cows enjoying the short grass beside the path along the top by Sandy Hill. No problems.

    Saturday 13 January 2018

    Full house again

On the way back from Gelvert, found all 13  together around 017 late afternoon.  It was after 5pm and pretty dark so I haven't much of an idea if they were okay, but from what I could see they were all fine and seemed very interested in my bike.......

    Friday 12 January 2018

Full house all munching on gorse, grass and heather around the lead contamination zone enclosure.

Dropped off a lick here. No concerns or problems with any of them. Brown and whites slightly thinner than the black and whites, but even then only 1 or 2. Again no concerns.
Once the lick went down there wasn't as much interest as I was expecting. Plenty of grub to eat I guess. All good.

Very peaceful day, barely anyone about due to weather. Drizzly, misty but not cold.

    Tuesday 9 January 2018

About midday came across a number on Hungry Hill amongst gorse and trees just inside gate off the Crescent.  It would not have been easy to count them.

    Monday 8 January 2018

Late morning - nine passed midway along Sandy Hill.

    Friday 5 January 2018

8 or possibly 9 found to the SW of the gravel pit pond (the one with the dead trees). All looked well and calm. I did not go to Gelbert today.
    Happy New Year Lookers! Martin

    Thursday 4 January 2018

At lunch time counted nine at northern end of Sandy Hill above the Horse Pond.

    Monday 1 January 2018

    Eight near the Gelvert/Caesar's boundary

Less awash with people, dogs and bikes and more awash with bog today!  Found eight (three Welsh Blacks and five others, I think) but they were deep in a soggy area around N18 and I couldn't get close without taking up bog snorkelling!  They seemed fine from what I could see.

    Sunday 15th September - All 24 seen

I came across yearling 270 and Sussex steer 1626 near ///stirs.inkjet.toned at 09:20 this morning. They were both gazing out over the pastur...
