Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Sunday 31 March 2019

    All found on Sunday

Found in two groups - one large group of 15 were grazing and snoozing on the top of Caesar's early this afternoon.  All seemed fine and very relaxed.  Did notice a lot of small warts on 120's inner rear thighs (sure there's a more technical term!).
The other five (118, 940, 72, 33 and 30) were by the gate onto Beacon Hill Road, looking slightly sheepish for some reason.  940 had a small amount of blood on her side - perhaps from a scratch? 118's eyes looked clear.  They were rather interested in my bike!

    Thursday 28 March 2019

All found and well Thu 28th

They were tricky to find today - myself and Kurt spent 2.5 hours each searching in 2 vans but got them all in the end (the last 8 were where I started!)

Licks dropped off for them. 118's eye is looking far better.

    28th March - no sighting

Beacon Hill side of Caesar's Camp

    Tuesday 26 March 2019

Late morning 19 on Sandy Hill moving slowly southwards.

    Sunday 24 March 2019

    Sunday 24 March 2pm

Twelve cattle on Sandy Hill. Grazing happily.
Using the lick. Also ploughing through the gorse - not seen that before.

    All together on Sunday

All were lazing and grazing on a beautiful morning up Caesar's at about K23, and then later moving towards the horse pond.  They looked fine. 118's left eye looked much improved; there was a very little weeping from the right eye, but that might have been nothing of concern.  Really busy and a huge number of dogs, but most were well behaved towards the cattle.

    Thursday 21 March 2019

118 update and checking of others

Split bunch between the top and bottom of Sandy hill. Have checked 118 again and hasn't got any worse but still with a small amount visible on the eye.

    Wednesday 20 March 2019

    12 seen

We walked from the  Fleet road entrance towards the lookout and quite quickly came upon 12 cows grazing to the left hand side of the path, 6 of them looked to be youngsters.
There was a lot of army activity, in particular two large army articulated lorries rumbling around. None of the cows looked the least bit interested!

118 update: Grazing team looked at him yesterday and thought there was a good bit of improvement so have decided to leave for time being. Please keep up the monitoring. Thank you!

    Monday 18 March 2019

    Full house.

First 15 including 118 on Sandy Hill again after remnants of my previous licks from 2 weeks ago. Had a good look at 118 and unfortunately it was back to tear staining down its left cheak, greying clear but this could be scarring now. Eye not linking but not as open as right eye. Have called for a second opinion from Grazing team.

And bonus! Met Jo and SPA wardens again so they got to swat up on New Forest Eye symptoms! Lucky them ;)

Other 5 sun bathing on opposite bank closer to fire breaks, between look out and Sandy Hill. All doing well.

    Saturday 16 March 2019

late message - Friday early eve

Saw the same 7 as Ivan , I think, which included a healthy looking 118.  In fact fighting fit and busy with a lot of head butting with 72, who in the end decided to leave the young upstart alone!
Late morning 7 black/black & white lying in Long Bottom at a point about half way between Horse Pond and Pavilion.

    Friday 15 March 2019

40 minutes ago there were thirteen at the north end of Long Bottom and they were moving towards the top end of the valley.

    Tuesday 12 March 2019

    Monday and Tuesday.

Despite much searching yesterday I couldn’t find all be heard. Only finding 15. However this morning I found them all up on and near the newly cleared area at the top end of long bottom.

Took some yelling to get some of them out of the horse nearby but all came.

118 eye looking much better than describes before.

    Monday 11 March 2019

Mid-morning: nine grazing at northern end of Sandy Hill.

    Sunday 10 March 2019

    Full house - just!

Found all the group except for two sunning themselves behind a windbreak of thick gorse up on the track near Sandy Hill (S20).  The group included 118 whose left eye was closed and weeping very badly.   The others seemed fine.
21 and 35 were way off at G22, where they had been late on Friday.  They seemed okay too.

    Friday 8 March 2019

Caught up with the herd again today. 118 needs dosing for sure.

Glad i came back out as 118's eye was worse, but i got a good look at it this time and confirmed it had New Forest. Called the grazinng team in and led 118 plus chums from Sandy Hill to the Corral without  much bother? Trickier with hot sun. One x jab in the butt and cream in the eye and it was good to go!

Lets see how he does. Two licks dropped off horsepond end of Sandy Hill.

The long march back to the corral bless'em.

    Thursday 7 March 2019

Full house! And a very well behaved herd on Sandy Hill for the new SPA wardens.

All looking well. Calf 118 is one to monitor however, was a perfect example of the blinking and agitation plus tear stains normally associated with New Forest. Left eye. Managed to get close enough to see no greying in it, just a lil red.

Two were as far away from the Sandy Hill herd as they could get, parallel to Bourley Rd heading in direction of Nissan hut.

    all seen this morning

All seen happily grazing at 08.30 between Sandy Lane and the reservoir.  Breezy morning out there!

    Wednesday 6 March 2019

    16 seen this morning

Found 14 approx 100 metres west of the Horse Pond and a further 2 beside the pond. All seemed well and calm.
Apologies for not blogging much recently, hope to be up on the ranges more soon.

    Sunday 3 March 2019

    Stormy Sunday - zilch!

Not a cow in sight early afternoon in the usual spots - perhaps they were hunkered down out of the wind and rain?

    Saturday 2 March 2019

    Sat afternoon

7 young ones on Sandy Hill just now. All looking healthy, happy and ac
    tually very cute.

    Sat am

10 seen, in the distance, on the Bourley Road side of Long Bottom. All happily grazing.

    Sunday 15th September - All 24 seen

I came across yearling 270 and Sussex steer 1626 near ///stirs.inkjet.toned at 09:20 this morning. They were both gazing out over the pastur...
