Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Wednesday 29 May 2019

Early this afternoon there were at least 6 at the top end of Long Bottom and on its western flank.

    Tuesday 28 May 2019

    Tuesday 28th May.

I found the five that Jo had already seen at the western end of Long Bottom, all grazing and looking well.

I then found the other nine around towards the western end Long Bottom. They were quite well spread out just west of the horse pond and all looking fit and well.

    Tuesday 28th May

5 found having a lie down at the lookout overlooking the covered reservoir. All looked well. 168/159/165/177/176

    Sunday 26 May 2019

    Later on Sunday

The group - 940, 72 and the six brown Shetlands, had moved further up the track beyond the horse pond.  Still looking relaxed.   No idea where the others are hiding.

    Sunday am

Eight resting in the open area, behind the Pavillion. The black one was fast asleep. They looked quite contented and were ignoring all the dogs walking through them. The majority of the dogs were well behaved, except one which wanted to play. The cows just ignored it.

    Saturday 25 May 2019

    Saturday am

No cattle sightings, but I did find a number of used tealights, scattered round the corner of the Horse Pond, where there were fires, earlier in the year.

    Friday 24 May 2019

    Friday evening

Seven - six brown Shetlands and 940 - were grazing near Long Valley this evening and seemed fine.  Lovely evening up there with a cuckoo keeping us company and several swallows.

    Thursday 23 May 2019

    No show today between 10.30am-12.00pm

    All present and correct

Having gathered up and checked all the cattle in Gelvert yesterday we can confirm that the tag numbers for the 14 on Caesars is accurate and there are no jumpers between the two - well as of yesterday of course.

    Wednesday 22 May 2019

All seen and well Tue 21st

They were in 2 herds yesterday: 5 youngsters were keeping to themselves and were by the Shell garage entrance (& later by the Beacon Hill Rd gate), the other main herd were scattered along the ridge pass the Sandy Hill estate, near Bricksbury Hill.

    Tuesday 21 May 2019

I passed nine lying on the ridge between Long Bottom and Windy Gap at about ten this morning.

    Monday 20 May 2019

Four hours walking (wardening!) and finally found some cows!! 7 on Caesar’s making friends with 4 on Gelvert. All looked well (23,159,165,147,176,168 and 177). Will report on Gelvert blog too.

    Saturday 18 May 2019

    Sandy Hill Saturday 18 May

14 cattle at 13:15 on Sandy Hill. Appear relaxed and content. Mixed grazing, cud chewing and dozing.

    Thursday 16 May 2019

    All now seen this week

I had a look yesterday for the 4 that were difficult to find and found them up by the Sandy Hill estate, i.e. 021, 035, 020, 033. All looked well.

    While I was there I also saw 023, 030, 072, 1940.

    Tuesday 14 May 2019

    May 14th - 10 seen

    Proving a bit elusive today but 10 were seen by Graham including: 023, 030, 072, 147, 159, 165, 168, 176, 177, 1940.

    Monday 13 May 2019

One hour ago I counted eight in Long Bottom half way between the Horse Pond and the northern end.

    Sunday 12 May 2019

    Sunday afternoon

The six smaller ones, 147, 159, 165, 168, 176 and 177, were busy grazing near the horse pond.  Very friendly and inquisitive, and seemed fine.

    Sunday am

I saw a few, in the far distance, near the covered reservoir.

    Friday 10 May 2019

    All sort of together

All the cattle were in two well spread out groups in the area around N28 early this evening - one with the black ones and one with the brown ones.  All seemed peaceful and fine.

    Thursday 9 May 2019

    Thursday am

Five resting on the open area behind the Pavillion, before the rain came. All looked Ok.

    Tuesday 7 May 2019

    Tuesday Morning

So this morning I found the 8 adults up near to the Camp. Gave them some nuts, had a good look over.  All look fine.

Then found 6 small ones up near sandy hill.  This included two of those which had jumped into Gelvert.  I didn't get them all on Gelvert so will update the blog number details after tomorrow when I know what is going on exactly.

    I got

    Monday 6 May 2019

    Oops - I don't mean Sunday - I mean Monday!!

Eight others - mid afternoon Sunday

The other eight were in the woodland near the gate at the upper end of Sandy Hills - not much fodder in there, so perhaps they were just passing through.   They looked fine.
Though intact, the fencing in that area looks weak in a couple of points where people are clearly crossing rather than using a gate.

    Monday early afternoon

023,020,021 & 035. Down from the look out. 021 has a slightly blood shot right eye.
Then down at the reservoir's saw the 4 new white young ones along with 155

Sunday Afternoon....then there were 7 little ones :)

176,168,177,165 by the horse pond early afternoon... all good
Three Little ones have new friends! 178, 181, 187,147,155,159 mid afternoon at the fishermans reservoir

    Saturday 4 May 2019

    And a few more

The group on Sandy Hill were joined by 20, 23 and 33 later on Saturday afternoon.  All seemed well. And a lovely sighting of a woodlark nearby.

    Saturday early PM

After visiting on Monday & Wednesday with no shows, I was today please to see the 3 little ones over by the fisherman carpark and then saw 165,176,168,177,023,035 over on sandy hill. All looking nicely chilled and enjoying the local grub :)

    Friday 3 May 2019

    A few ...

Saw a group of five of the brown and white cows and two others - possibly 940 and 72 grazing on the track below Sandy Hills.  Was rather far off but they were moving well and seemed fine.

    Wednesday 1 May 2019

    Tuesday 30th

So i spent quite a while yesterday looking for the  cows.  Having found a group of 8 and 4 i thought i still had 5 to find.

Having checked the blogs this morning i have seen that the grazing team have removed 5 so at least i don't have to head out this morning.

    All looked fine

    Sunday 15th September - All 24 seen
