Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    0930 Mon 29th June

We found the 4 youngsters eating, drinking and walking past James Bond Pond towards Caesers Camp. The original 15 were all on the camp laying down or in the small stand of trees. 030 was hiding behind the portaloos.

    Thank you for the names

Hi - lovely to have names for all the cattle, though I feel for 1940!!  Thank you.

    Friday 26 June 2020

10am Fri 26th June. We did our usual walk and were disappointed when nearing the end we had not found any, but there was 035 alone in the trees at w3w geologist.smile.scuba. Then rounding the corner we saw the 4 newbies w3w spoiled.traps.factored. All look well.

Came across 10, on the move, and heading into the bracken, towards Hungary Hill.

    Tuesday 23 June 2020

All nineteen seen in and around the barn getting out of the sun and heat.

    Earlier on Tuesday

The four newbies were enjoying sunbathing on the heather between Caesar's look out and the Bourley Road - being child minded by 20 and 23.  A group of about 5 more were near the horse pond - I haven't seen the black and white ones for a few weeks and how they have grown!!

    Monday 22 June 2020

    Monday 22nd

Saw 13 at small pond near the Shell garage. 196/147/23/20/155/177/198/940/194/195/33/30/194
All looking well, though a few have some enormous ticks.
0900 Mon 22nd June We found approx 12, including the 4 newbies, in and around the little pond next to James Bond Pond. All looking healthy, trying to eat everything they could reach. Didn't find any of the others from our usual walk aroun Caesers Camp.

    Thursday 18th June

First time Looker! Saw 8 (inc. 147, 72) grazing happily in thick grass just off the sloped path down to Bourley Wood (L16) all looked well and contently chomping

At midday  counted 18 (I probably missed one) up in the Camp itself.  Very wet; most were lying down.

    Wednesday 17 June 2020

My first Looker session post lock down today with new Looker Steve and Carolyn (visiting from velmead). Herd were in H19 in the valley just to the east of the covered reservoir. Spotted all from the lookout.

The herd were very relaxed and were perfect models. Even the cheeky calf that has no social distance radar what so ever!
The below pic was taken by Steve of a mating pair of Silver-studded blues we saw on the route. There were several down there actually, nice to see.

    Tuesday 16 June 2020

    Tuesday 16th June.

Found them all quite quickly this morning, they were split into two groups. One group were making their way along Long Bottom and all looking well.

The second group were on the edge of the large sandy area seeking shade under some trees and all looking good.

    Monday 15 June 2020

Report in this morning from SPA Warden Steve: Just found the whole herd in the 'Naughty Hut' (aka Nissan Hut) which is the eastern most end of the site nr the Old Pavilion. Bonus!

09.30 Mon 15th June Not a one. Walked from Sandy Hill around to the ponds to Caesers Camp. Had a good look at the view from there then down the stony track and on to the Horse Pond, which is looking lovely with the Water Lilies coming out and all the ducks. Around that and along the lower path back to Sandy Hill. Hey Ho!

    Friday 12 June 2020

    Friday 12th

Eventually found the young 4 right down the far end near to the Queens Pavilion.  All looked fine.  Gave them some nuts.

By chance then saw the other 15 on the way out of site.

So all accounted for this week.

    Some twice

All good.  Some tick rubbing marks but nothing to worry about.
08.30 Fri 12th June. We found the newbies first at w3w elections.projects.called, (1st photo). They were near the Bourley Road car park on our return (photo 2 & 3). One of them seemed bothered by ticks, 164 I think could be wrong!! They were a bit skitty.

09.00 Mon 8th May. We didn't find any of the beasts. From Sandy Hill we walked to the small pond and James Bond, then over to Ceasers Camp. Looked all around the top and scrutinised the view, then went down to the Horse pond were there was a strong smell of recent burning. From there along the dip between the ponds and back to Sandy Hill.

    Friday 5 June 2020

09.50 Fri 5th June. We found 4 cows at approx. w3w chain.jetted.cello. Then with advice from a walker found 11 drinking at James Bond pond. They were all the old 15. We saw no sign of the 4 new ones.

Main herd deciding its a good morning for a paddle, the gelvert crew staying near home (covered reservoir end).

All looking well. Nice day, no flies. Met a roaming police in a 4x4, apparently it eas a long time coming. Think they were enjoying the break in craziness.

    Thursday 4 June 2020

Belated post for 3 June eve

The four movers from Gelvert were near the Beacon Hill entrance early evening - looking fine and very busy grazing. I think the numbers were 106, 108, 194 and 195.
Saw about 13 of the main herd near the Horse Pond - seemed well.
Fewer people and less litter around.

    Wednesday 3 June 2020

    Wednesday 9:15 am

15 lying down behind the Pavilion, all seemed OK

    Tuesday 2 June 2020

    4 cows add to site

We have moved the 4 Hereford crosses from gelvert to Ceasars.

    Monday 1 June 2020

09.30 1st June We found 6 around the horse pond w3w flipper.registry.mistaking. Some in the water eating the iris. Then another 8 around rips.wound.same. We saw a magpie flying up, close to the hind legs, and picking something off 2 of the youngsters. We might of miscounted they were very much on the move heading towards the Sandy Hill area.
