Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Saturday 30 April 2016

    Saturday sightings

Late this afternoon there were about 10 well spread out in the undergrowth at about E30 and three close to the track at R14.  No idea where the others were, despite a good hunt !!.

    Monday 25 April 2016

Monday 25th 4.30 to 5 pm 6 found on track by Sandy Hill and 4 lower down on the path in the valley approx Q 18-19. All seemed happy
Walked length of Long Bottom.  Six encountered about halfway between Horse Pond and top of the valley>  They were dispersed over some 200 yds along the main track.

    Sunday 24 April 2016

    Sunday morning

Belated post - saw 8 on the top of Caesar's, near the lookout and at least 8 in a wide area around the track near P19 this morning.  I too thought the lighter brown one looked rather thinner than many of the others.

    Saturday 23 April 2016

    Saturday am

11 cattle seen on path next to Sandy Hill

    Friday am

No cattle sightings. Signs of recent wildfires at the side of the track between M28/29 and at H30. Too many seperate spots to be accidental. I also saw, what looked like, a pair of proffesional dog walkers taking a pack of dogs through the middle of the area cleared by the contractors, to the east of the Horse Pond, disturbing all the wildlife before them. A number of these groups use the Bourley Road car park, perhaps a notice about ground nesting birds and keeping to the tracks might be useful.

    Thursday 21 April 2016

A cold windy gray morning walk without any sittings of cattle, I suspect they were sheltering from the cold which under the conditions seems reasonable.

    Wednesday am

sorry for the late posting. Yesterday there were 4 cattle by the last gate on Sandy Hill and 17 up on the lookout at Caesars Camp.

    Tuesday 19 April 2016

    Tuesday morning

It took me over three hours but eventually I accounted for all 22. Split into five groups they really were hard to find. I put out two licks. I noticed that 60082 had some sores on its left back leg, 20056 seemed to have some bleeding from the mouth but this was after it had been at the lick so I think it may have hurt its gums on that. 20064 seemed a little lame and was limping a little, so all things to look out for. the grass is starting o grow now and there will soon be plenty of fresh growth forage for them.

    Sunday 17 April 2016

    Sunday pm

10 cattle seen at R16. All munching happily. The very light brown cow seems to be much thinner than the rest. But has clean face and rear end and eating contentedly.
Noticed trail bike activity on path that runs just inside common parallel to main road near garage. At least two riders there at 4pm
Walked for about an hour and a half this late morning. Beautiful day. Found 2 cows immediately beside the path at Sandy hill. One was the pretty cream coloured cow (No57). Whilst she looked perfectly happy, we thought she looked a little thin today.
We found a further 4 cows on the slope and another 7 in the brush a little to the west. On returning we found another 2 cows further west along the track beside Sandy hill. One of them, (No56) was bellowing loudly. So 15 cows in all.
There were lots and lots of people around, walkers, cyclists, runners, enjoying the weather but no motor cyclists today.

    Saturday 16 April 2016

Walked from 2 to 3 pm from western entrance to Caesers camp then back to Sandy Hill
Only 2 found by track at pedestrian entrance from Sandy Hill. They looked well - rest were clearly hiding.

Saturday 16th April -  7.30am - to  8am  six cattle observed on the main track below Sandy Hill - no issues

    Friday 15 April 2016

    Friday pm

gave up waiting for a break in the rain and took the dog out about 5.30. Not a sign of the cattle. Obviously all very sensibly huddled in some dry sheltered place. Unlike me.

    Thursday 14 April 2016

    Thursday 9:30am

14 slowly grazing their way eastwards along the track at K25.

Morning all, 6 0clock walk this morning. No activiity seen on cesars camp but 9 cattle observed on the other side of the fence on Gelvert P10 above the disused resevoir. All looked good.

    Tuesday 12 April 2016

A bit late in the day to enter this but at about 11 AM I came across 11 grazing on heather in a clearing on western side of valley at the top of Long bottom.  As the clearing is surrounded by high and dense gorse there may have been more of them.

    Monday 11 April 2016

midday  came across 10 (2 white, rest black) on Camp within 100 yds Jubilee Clump.  There may have been more - the gorse is high and thick here.  No more seen between here and far western limit of area.

    Saturday 9 April 2016

    Saturday afternoon

Bright and sunny and the rain held off for us. Found 12 cows lazing near the lake at approx 017. Then ,as we headed home there were a further 7 walking along the track beside Sandy Hill.

    Friday 8 April 2016

    Friday am

about 12 seen at R20 at 11.35 this morning.

    Thursday 7 April 2016

    All 22 found

All 22 found today, in three groups, some by the horse pond, and two groups by sandy hill. Gave them two mineral licks, which they seemed very pleased about!
Bright morning but a little chilly. My first sighting was was on the Gelvert area I11 at about 0715 were thewas a group of 7. Later in the area of R16 there was 8 on the higher ground to the west of the pond all looked well.

    Thursday am

5 spotted at R16. Looked like they had just come up for a drink from the lake. Then a further 5 seen in the wooded area around O20. This was at about 08.00

    Wednesday 6 April 2016

    Wednesday pm

Just 3 cattle found lying by the edge of the track around R15

    Wednesday am

At least 7, spread out and quietly browsing, amongst the trees, on the hillside, around M28.

    Tuesday 5 April 2016

    Tuesday pm

2 or 3 cattle spotted in the distance around I16

    Monday 4 April 2016

    Monday pm

8 cows lying in the heather at P16

    Sunday 3 April 2016

Sunday 3rd - visit to site between 7.30am and 8.15am - no cattle seen

    Sunday am

No cattle sightings, but the fence has been partially cut at I27. The cattle can't get through, but the cut ends are sharp.

    Saturday 2 April 2016

    Saturday am

Beautiful morning on Caesar's Camp. 3 cows grazing in the bushes around G33. The terrapin sunbathing on the brick and concrete structure, at the edge of the Horse Pond, and a male pheasant wandering around I28.

    Friday 1 April 2016

    Friday 9:45am

Any one on the Caesar's Camp area keep an eye out for this boy. I found him trying to get out of the fenced in area, around J25. He seemed to be guite stressed and tired. He was wearing a collar, but there were no ID markings on it. A younger, fitter, dog walker jumped over the fence and lifted him out. Unfortunately, as soon as his paws hit the ground, he was off up the long, straight, track towards the Camp, before we could grap him.

Elliott - Thanks for helping to get the dog out Arthur.  If we hear anything we will pass on this info.

    Sunday 15th September - All 24 seen

I came across yearling 270 and Sussex steer 1626 near ///stirs.inkjet.toned at 09:20 this morning. They were both gazing out over the pastur...
