All 25 cattle had gathered on Hungry Hill near ///wound.drags.racks at 13:30 this afternoon, seeking shelter from the heavy rain. Most were resting and chewing their cud under the cover of trees and bushes, while a few snacked on gorse. They were all very friendly, warmly greeting me as I moved among them for their checks. Despite being wet, the cattle were relaxed and in good condition, with several enjoying having their coats ruffled to help them dry off. Cow 211, undeterred by the rain, insisted on giving me gentle head rubs while thoroughly enjoying a long neck and shoulder rub.
It was a pleasure to see the entire herd together and spend some quiet, relaxing time with them. They appeared happy to rest and wait out the rain, and showed no concern with me sharing their shelter.
By 14:20, the rain had eased, and the sun broke through the clouds. Most of the cattle moved into the sunshine, shaking themselves off and basking to dry their coats. I said my goodbyes about ten minutes later as they relaxed peacefully in the warmth.
Youngster 220's eye was fine again today, with no issues observed.
The cows were all good today.
