Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Wednesday 1st January - All 25 seen

Happy New Year.  All the best for 2025. 🍾🥂🥳

At 09:45 this morning, a mixed group of sixteen cattle were grazing among the thicket near the main path at the Beacon Hill Road end of the site. They were trying to stay sheltered from the gusty wind and heavy rain. Despite being very wet, they were very friendly and briefly came out to greet me and be checked. All sixteen looked healthy and in good condition.

At 10:50, youngsters 227 and 230 were grazing among the bracken and gorse bushes near ///boards.blunt.totally. Both came over to say hello, completely drenched, before returning to their grazing. Soon after, steers 30, 35, 197, 219, 270 and 1640, along with cow 940, were found munching on heather near ///salt.mulled.stated. The heavy rain didn't seem to bother them too much. Around 11:10, youngster 230 wandered along and joined the group, before coming back over to see me. He thoroughly enjoyed having the water brushed off his coat, before I gave it a good ruffle to help him dry. The group was happy, relaxed, and looking well.

Youngster 227 appeared to have lost track of the group and was wandering alone along the path at the bottom of the hill near ///turns.stirs.debt at 11:20. When I called out to him, he paused, looked up, and mooed, which caught the attention of the other cattle. They mooed back, prompting him to wait as the group slowly made their way down the hill to reunite with him.

The cows were all good today.
