It's been a long time since I've got to see so much of Caesar's Camp in a single visit! All 25 cattle were happy, healthy and in good condition, in five groups spread out across the length and breadth of the site.
Sussexes 210, 211, 212 and 1396, along with cow 940, were enjoying plenty of heather in the pasture near ///fumes.copy.dices at 14:00 this afternoon. Nearby, Sussex steers 197 and 1640 were munching on gorse on the slope of Hungry Hill.
At 14:40, cow 72 and Sussex steer 1626 had just emerged from the gorse bushes near ///waxing.twin.megawatt, just east of the Gelvert main entrance. Both paused for long, refreshing drinks from some puddles. Yearlings 270 and 271 were nearby, grazing deep in the gorse.
At 14:55, steers 20, 35 and 230 were grazing near ///jumps.stint.visa, further west towards Beacon Hill Road. Youngster 230 soon took a break, wandering over to say hello and enjoy a long neck and back rub.
Steer 33 was found lying in the heather near ///snow.storming.digress, south of James Bond Pond at 15:10. Nearby, youngster 219 was munching on gorse, while steer 30 grazed in the bushes to the southeast. Youngster 217 was hidden deep within the gorse bushes to the southwest. He seemed surprised to see me but came over for a few sniffs and a quick hello.
At 15:55, the final group of seven cattle was found down near the Bourley Road at ///empires.dunk.mess. Older steer 21 had been grazing a little to the south, but soon came and joined the others. Most were happily grazing under the trees near the fence line. Youngster 220's eye was fine again today, with no signs of injury.
The cows were all good today.
