    Wednesdsy 21st

10 cows found near the water tower, seems the 7 Hawley cows had joined 3 of the old timers (including the collared no 72!)

The remaining 12 were together in the Heather near the view point.

All the cows were drenched, but seemed fine otherwise.

    Tuesday 20th February - All 22 seen

The fifteen original cows were all back together and were lying down resting in the area around ///cattle.bowls.attic at 12:30 this afternoon.  They were all relaxing and chewing their cud.  Some had made beds out of the bracken and were looking very cosy.  They were all happy and looking well.

The Surrey Fire Brigade was training behind where the cows were lying, close to the gorse bushes that got burnt a couple of weeks ago.  They soon left and went to Horse Pond.

The seven Sussex cows were grazing in the area around ///bends.drank.giraffes at 13:10.  They were eating lots of gorse and heather.  Steer 197 was giving his back a good scratch against the branches of a tree.  Steer 210 came over and said hello and gave my hand a few licks.  They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

The cows were all good today.

    Monday 19th February - All 22 seen

Older cow 72 and steer 230 were standing, relaxing and chewing their cud around ///frail.raven.legal on Sandy Hill at 13:15 this afternoon.  Steers 219 and 228 were munching on grass close by.  Yearlings 270 and 271 plus older cow 940 were happily eating a bit further along the hill around ///tapes.spokes.rags a short time later.  Steers 220 and 222 were relaxing in the sunshine nearby.  All nine were looking well.

The five older steers 20, 21, 30, 33 and 35 plus youngster 217 were all lying down resting in the bracken and heather around ///pounces.flop.puzzles at 13:45.  Youngster 217 was having a snooze while the others relaxed and chewed their cud.  The boys were all good.

The seven Sussex cows were grazing near ///highs.occur.forge down at the Bourley Road at 14:40.  They were all initially munching on gorse, but they gradually came out of the bushes to say hello before starting to relax and chew their cud.

On closer inspection, it appears that all the Sussex cattle had bald patches somewhere on their person today.  Mostly on their necks, shoulders or rumps.  I'm wondering if this is part of them shedding their winter coats?

The cows were all good today.

Sunday 18th February - All 22 seen - Steer 210 has small bald patches on his neck and shoulders

At 10:00 this morning, steers 20, 21, 33, 35, and 228 plus cow 72 were climbing up the hill near ///haggling.cooks.flux. Steers 30, 219, 222, 270 and 271 plus cow 940 were all grazing on the pasture at the mid-point of the hill.  They soon climbed up and joined the others who had started grazing in the gorse bushes opposite.  This group was returning from a night spent down near Bourley Road.

Steers 217, 220 and 230 were grazing in the gorse bushes near ///edge.afternoon.bits at 10:25.  They had earlier wandered along from the south-west, where they had spent the night.  All three came out of the bushes and took big drinks of water from the puddles.  They wandered over to the area around ///rating.mush.matter, where they began grazing with the other cows.

Cow 211 and steer 210 were grazing in the area around ///describes.learn.robot near James Bond pond at 10:55.  The other five were eating gorse in the bushes to the west of them.  Slowly, cows 212 and 1396 plus steer 1626 emerged from the bushes and started to graze in the heather with the other two.  By 11:40, steer 210 and cows 212 and 1396 were lying, relaxing and chewing their cud in the sunshine.  Steers 197 and 1640 remained eating in the gorse bushes.

While steer 210 was grazing, I noticed he had small bald patches on both sides of his neck and on both of his shoulders. I've let the Grazing team know.

The fifteen originals weren't too far away from the seven Sussex cattle.  Steers 30, 35, 219 and 230 were all lying down around ///woke.hound.unwind at noon.  The other eleven cows were all spread out in a big circle around them, eating in the gorse bushes.

The cows were all good today.

I bumped into youngster 228 as he was wandering down the track to the area around ///ozone.snails.warp near the Lookout at 11:40.  The fourteen other cows were already there and were spread out grazing in the surrounding area.  Most were enjoying lots of heather.  Steer 33 was deep in the gorse bushes.  The cows were all happy and relaxed, and were looking well.  Youngster 222 and the two yearlings were very friendly today and wandered over to say hello.  I stayed with the herd for a while as they grazed and fended off a couple of dogs who were off their leads.  The owners quickly called them back.

The cows were all good today.
