At 09:50 this morning, the seven Sussex cattle, along with youngster 219, were lying down and relaxing near ///mingles.drove.globe, peacefully chewing their cud. They were slightly damp from the earlier rain but looked in excellent condition. All were calm and happy to be approached, enjoying a few strokes while resting in the heather.
By 10:20, cow 72, along with steers 21 and 271, were grazing a little further north in the thicket near ///panel.dance.basics. They were happily munching on fresh grass and heather, with the occasion nibble at some gorse for variety. Not long after, steers 20, 35, 220, and 227 were spread out, grazing contentedly in the heather to the east near ///printout.snap.duet. Reaching them meant pushing through dense bracken, and I got rather wet in the process! All seven were relaxed, content, and looking well.
At 10:55, the final group of ten cattle had just started grazing on the hillside south of the water treatment compound, having made their way around the west side of the covered reservoir. Some were enjoying the heather, while others preferred the grass growing among the bracken. Several came over to greet me and stayed for some strokes and rubs. All ten were friendly, relaxed, and in good condition.
The cows were all good today.
