At 15:25 this afternoon, cow 72 and steer 230 were resting on opposite sides of the path near ///spill.palettes.calm, at the foot of Sandy Hill. Steers 35 and 227 were nearby, foraging for acorns in the woodland to the west. All four were happy, relaxed, and looking well.
By 15:45, youngster 219 and six Sussex cattle were lying in the bracken near ///pebbles.doll.niece, relaxing and chewing their cud. They were very friendly, poking their heads through the bushes to enjoy a few strokes. All seven were content, relaxed, and in good condition.
At 16:00, Sussex cow 211 and eleven members of the Caesar's original herd were resting near ///defend.pram.trash, close to Hungry Hill. Cow 211 was lying under the shade of a tree on the western side of the dividing path and was very affectionate, leaning in for a long neck and back rub and rewarding me with cuddles and licks. The rest of the group were either dozing in the sunshine or chewing their cud, with several getting up to greet me and enjoy back rubs. As I left shortly after 16:30, they wandered north to graze in the pasture across the main path. All twelve were calm, relaxed, and in good condition.
At 16:40, while searching for the two missing cows, I came across youngster 219 and the six Sussex cattle again near ///cheer.masks.rural. This time they were all foraging for acorns under the trees.
By 17:00, I located the two British White cows, 214 and 234, resting near ///refer.cloud.usual, southwest of the Lookout. Although it was particularly windy on the higher ground, they didn't seem at all bothered, happily relaxing and chewing their cud. Both looked healthy, relaxed, and content. Shortly before I left, they stood up for a good stretch and followed me over to the Lookout, alternating between grazing on fresh grass and foraging for acorns. There was a heavy fall of acorns beneath the trees by the benches, so I gathered a large amount into a carrier bag and removed them from the site.
The cows were all good today.
