Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Wednesday 8th March - All 17 seen - scrapes on cows 222, 228 and 235

After a very long search of a snowy and foggy Caesar's Camp, I eventually found all seventeen cows spread out in the area around ///carry.jars.offer at noon.  They were trying their best to shelter from the snow, but were all very wet.

They slowly made their way down to the area around ///often.bounty.shock where they all started eating from the gorse bushes on either side of the path.  By 13:00 fourteen of them had made it into the cow shed where they started to relax and chew their cud.  Cows 33 and 220 decided to stand outside, despite it continuing to sleet, while cow 21 stood across the path under the shelter of some trees.

Unfortunately, some of the cows had picked up some scrapes.  Youngster 222 had some blood on his right leg, just above his hoof.   Youngster 228 had a scratch on his lower left leg, however, after grazing in the snow it had practically washed away.  Neither injury appeared to be causing them any issues, with both able to put their full weight on their leg and walk fine.  Youngster 235 had a little trickle of blood on her right ear, which I only noticed when she came into the cow shed.  I suspect she did this while grazing in the gorse bushes, as it wasn't there when I checked her earlier.   I met Harry on-site today when the cows were busy grazing, and he checked cows 222 and 228.  We'll need to keep a careful eye on all three.

The cows were all good today despite the wintry weather.  Hopefully they'll stay in the cow shed and dry out.
