Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Friday 31st - COW UPDATE

    Hello all,

The cows have been released back onto the main body of Gelvert and Caesars camp. They weren't particularly keen to leave Camp 45, despite there being no grazing and them being led to an open gate, so we have left the gate open and set nofence to allow them out. Hopefully, one day one of them will be able to work it out!

For the time being, please check the nofence map for their locations.

    Thanks,

    Sean

    Friday 31st October - All 25 seen

     Between 07:30 - 09:00

All have been seen this morning, they were all amongst the trees when I arrived but by 8:00 had started to venture onto the two fields. Despite the drizzle they all looked quite content grazing. 222 was his normal friendly self insisting on a head and back rub.

All the cattle were good this morning.

Lovely to see them dry and warm with their winter fluffy ears and mop tops 🥰

    Wednesday 29th October - All 25 seen

At 15:20 this afternoon, a mixed group of fifteen cattle were grazing in the eastern pasture near Bourley Road. They were still damp from earlier rain but were happily enjoying plenty of grass as they slowly grazed toward the southeast corner. Even when a few light showers passed through, they continued to graze contentedly. Older steers 30, 33, and 35 were initially resting under the trees by the stream, occasionally nibbling on holly leaves before moving out to join the others. Meanwhile, seven others were foraging for acorns beneath the trees along the eastern fence line before eventually wandering out to join the main group.

The cattle were all very friendly, coming over to say hello and enjoy plenty of strokes and rubs. The wetter ones seemed to appreciate having the excess water brushed from their backs and sides. Many took breaks from grazing to stand and chew their cud while leaning in for long neck and back rubs. Youngster 222 was particularly playful, seeming to think it was great fun to give me gentle rubs with his wet head after enjoying an especially long neck scratch.

When the herd reached the area in front of the trees in the southeast corner, they stopped to rest and chew their cud. A few came over for another round of strokes and rubs before gradually wandering off toward the woodland in the southwest corner to browse on leaves from the trees and bushes.

All the cattle were happy, relaxed, and in good condition. I said my goodbyes at 17:10, leaving them grazing peacefully in the woodland as darkness settled across the site.

The cows were all good today.

    Tuesday 28th October - All 25 seen

At 13:00 this afternoon, the cattle were happily grazing in the western pastures, enjoying plenty of grass in the sunshine. Youngster 227 was especially eager for his neck rub today and came straight over to greet me at the entrance gate. The others were just as friendly, coming over to say hello and enjoy plenty of strokes and rubs as I made my way around. All twenty-five were happy, relaxed, and in good condition.

After a while, the herd moved into the eastern pasture to continue grazing before most wandered over to the stream for a drink — at one point there was quite a queue! Once they’d had their fill, they gathered in the pasture to bask in the sunshine. Several came over again for more attention, leaning in for long neck, shoulder and back rubs.

I said my goodbyes at 14:30, leaving them grazing or resting peacefully. As I began to leave, the herd slowly drifted off, grazing their way toward the southeast corner.

The cows were all good today.

    Monday 27th October - All 25 seen

     Between 07:10 - 08:45

All have been seen this morning. They were mostly in the larger field. 222 was very friendly this morning enjoying several head and back rubs. At one point he was following me until I gave him another rub. Sussex 1626 spent a few minutes licking 214’s ear who seemed to be enjoying the attention.

All the cattle looked in very good condition, happy and enjoying the morning sunshine.

If someone could investigate why the Nofence tracker map is only showing 1 cow that would be appreciated.

Thurs 27th Nov - staff check

All 25 seen well in 3 separate groups of 9, 12 and 4. 1 group seemed to be having a stressful day...
