Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Tuesday 21st October - All 25 seen

At 16:15 this afternoon, a mixed group of twenty-one cattle were spread out across the western pastures, happily grazing on the plentiful grass. A heavy rain shower had passed shortly before I arrived, so they were all quite wet. They were very friendly, wandering over to say hello and enjoy some strokes. Several appreciated having the rain brushed from their backs and shoulders before leaning in for long neck and back rubs.

The herd continued to graze, gradually making their way toward the vehicle gate before crossing into the eastern pasture. There they joined steers 21, 33, and 227, along with cow 214, who had been grazing on that side of the site. I suspect they had sheltered in the southeast corner during the downpour, as they weren’t nearly as wet as the others. Many of the group paused for a drink from the stream before resuming their grazing.

The cattle then slowly made their way south toward the southeast corner, continuing to enjoy the lush grass. Many stopped along the way for more attention, happily leaning in for long back and shoulder rubs. Youngster 227 was especially affectionate, thoroughly enjoying a neck and chin rub before turning for a back scratch, carefully shifting back and forth to ensure I reached every itchy spot.

All the cattle were happy, relaxed, and in excellent condition. I said my goodbyes just after 18:00, leaving them peacefully grazing near the southeast corner as darkness began to fall.

The cows were all good today.
