At 16:30 this afternoon, the cattle were grazing in the eastern pasture near Bourley Road. Most were happily enjoying the plentiful grass, while a few browsed leaves from the bushes along the northern edge of the site. As I made my way over, cow 940 crossed the ditch between the pastures to greet me. After spending some time with her, I went to check on the others. They were all very friendly, coming over to say hello and enjoy some strokes and rubs.
The herd continued to graze, gradually moving from the east to the west side of the site before setting off to the south. Several stopped for a drink at the stream along the way. Youngsters 222, 227, and 230 lingered nearby, each taking turns to come over for long neck and back rubs. Youngster 222 was especially affectionate, thanking me with gentle head nudges.
As they continued south, the cattle grazed contentedly on the long grass. A few wandered into the trees and bushes in the centre of the site to browse on leaves before rejoining the main group. By 17:45, they had gathered near the woodland in the southwest corner. About half wandered into the trees to munch on leaves—accompanied by the sound of snapping branches—while the others rested and chewed their cud. Before long, they all made their way back to the eastern pasture to continue grazing.
All twenty-five were happy, relaxed, and in good condition. I said my goodbyes at 18:15, leaving them peacefully grazing as dusk settled over the site.
The cows were all good today.
