At 09:45 this morning, about half the cattle were grazing in the pasture just inside the main vehicle gate, while the rest were browsing leaves from the trees and bushes in the central area. They were all very friendly, happily coming over to say hello and enjoy plenty of strokes and rubs. Youngster 222 was especially affectionate, leaning in for a long head and neck rub before rewarding me with gentle head rubs. He rarely left my side, enjoying lots of attention whenever I wasn't with one of his herd mates.
By 10:30, most of the cattle had moved into the trees and bushes in the centre of the site, with the first few beginning to emerge into the eastern pasture to graze on the lush grass. Gradually, more followed, while a couple stopped by the stream for a drink before rejoining the herd. Even when a rain shower passed through at 11:05, the cattle stayed relaxed, alternating between grazing and coming over for more strokes.
By 11:20, the herd had begun settling down in the grassy area in front of the woodland in the southeast corner to rest and chew their cud. Although there were short spells of drizzle, they didn’t seem at all bothered. Only youngsters 217 and 220 chose to seek shelter under the trees. By noon, just steers 21 and 271 were still up and grazing contentedly. Cow 211 especially enjoyed a long neck and shoulder rub as she rested, offering countless licks in return.
The cattle were all happy, relaxed, and in excellent condition. They were super friendly again today, and it was lovely to spend some peaceful time with them. I said my goodbyes shortly after noon.
The cows were all good today.
