Shortly before 10:00 this morning, cows 214 and 234 wandered through the thicket beside the cow shed to drink from the stream by the wooden footbridge. After drinking, cow 214 enjoyed a back rub. As they started heading back toward the main group, yearling 270 arrived and stopped for a drink. I stayed with him while he drank, then we walked northwest together to find the others.
At 10:15, steers 30, 33, 219 and 222, along with cows 72 and 940, were lying down near ///plants.teeth.silver at the Royal Pavilion end of the site. They were relaxing and chewing their cud, looking very comfortable. Even while lying down, youngster 219 happily received a long ear and neck rub. In the background, steer 35 and yearling 271 were grazing, but after a while came to lie down too. Youngster 227 had been grazing in the thicket to the southwest, but came over to greet me and enjoy some strokes around 10:45. Meanwhile, older steers 20 and 21, along with cow 214, continued grazing in the thicket further south. All fourteen cattle were happy, relaxed, and looking well.
The seven Sussex cattle were grazing in the thicket near ///beamed.float.dried, just off the western end of Longbottom at 11:15. They were happily munching on leaves from a variety of bushes. Steers 1626 and 1640 were deep in the vegetation and a bit tricky to check properly, but the other five were friendly and came over for a few strokes. They were all happy and healthy.
By 11:30, youngsters 217, 220, 228, and 230 were spread out grazing in the thicket near ///dull.micro.youths. They were enjoying the abundance of leafy vegetation. Youngster 228 came over to say hello and enjoyed a few strokes, while youngster 230 stood on a verge for a long neck and back scratch. All four were happy and looking well.
At 12:15, Sussex steers 1626 and 1640 had emerged from the deep thicket and were grazing near ///clearcut.range.ruler, with cow 212 nearby. The boys were both fine, though I did notice that steer 1640 had a few new bald patches on his back.
The cows were all good today.
