Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Tuesday 15th April - All 25 seen

At 17:00 this afternoon, ten members of the Caesar's original herd, along with Sussex steer 1626, were spread out grazing along the slope of Sandy Hill. Shortly before I arrived, a heavy rain shower had passed through, leaving the cattle slightly damp, but they dried off quickly. They were all enjoying plenty of grass and heather. The group was very friendly, with several coming over for strokes and rubs. Youngster 222 was particularly friendly and enjoyed a long neck rub. It was wonderful to see him walking normally today.

A bit later, steers 20, 33, 35, 220, and 270, along with cows 72, 214, and 940, were scattered around the area surrounding Horse Pond.  They were peacefully grazing, with many taking a break to come over and say hello. The cattle from the first group gradually made their way down to join them, and eventually the entire group gathered along the path to the east of the pond. They were all happy, relaxed, and looking well.

The remaining six Sussex cattle had wandered along Sandy Hill from the west and were grazing near their favourite corner at 18:00. They didn't stop for long, choosing instead to continue east and begin grazing on the hillside. By 18:30, they had reached the area west of Horse Pond. All six were content and looking well.

The cows were all good today.
