At 10:00 this morning, steer 35 was happily munching on leaves in the thicket near ///melt.spine.atoms, at the Royal Pavilion end of the site. After saying hello, he followed me southeast to meet up with seven of his herd mates.
Youngsters 217, 222 and 230 were lying down, chewing their cud on the grassy area east of the Sandy Bowl. Steer 35 settled nearby on one of the grassy islands. Close by, cows 214 and 234 were contentedly munching on fresh grass before lying down next to the boys. Meanwhile, youngster 219 and yearling 271 were enjoying leaves from the surrounding bushes. Youngster 219 came over to say hello and enjoyed a relaxing back rub, lying down as soon as we were done. All eight were happy, relaxed, and looking well.
At 10:45, the remaining seventeen cattle were scattered across the pasture near ///defaults.rushed.deaf. Steers 21 and 220 were grazing, while the rest were lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud. Four of the Sussex cattle were gathered slightly further southwest — steer 210 and cow 211 were grazing, while cow 1396 and steer 1640 rested. A little while later, youngster 220 settled down, while steer 21 continued to graze on the fresh grass.
It was lovely to spend some quiet, relaxing time with the herd this morning. They were all very friendly as I wandered round checking on them, with many happy to receive strokes and rubs. Despite the refreshing breeze, there were still quite a few flies about, though the cattle didn't seem too bothered. Cow 211 was especially affectionate, coming over to say hello and happily enjoying a long neck and head rub, rewarding me with gentle head rubs and licks. Steer 227 also got up, stretched, and wandered over for a long back scratch. All seventeen were content, relaxed, and in good health.
Around 11:40, cow 940 got up and wandered northwest to graze in the pasture beyond the main path. Not long after, the other nine members of the Caesar's original herd followed her. The three Sussex cattle that had been with the larger group also made their way over to join the other four Sussexes. I said my goodbyes at noon.
The cows were all good today.
