Steers 197 and 227 were standing in front of the cow shed at 16:50 this afternoon. After enjoying a good back scratch, steer 197 wandered off towards Bourley Road. Steer 227 lingered for a long neck rub before following me over the wooden bridge. Together, we headed southwest in search of the others.
At 17:15, Sussex steer 210, along with cows 211 and 212, were happily grazing near ///texts.ramps.shirts. Sussex cow 1396 was also with them, but she seemed a little unsettled today. She would lie down in the bushes, stretch out on her side, then get up again after a few minutes — repeating this several times. She was walking normally and showed no obvious signs of discomfort or injury. At 17:30, she lay down in the heather on the higher ground near ///inert.pens.register, with steer 210 joining her. After one final reposition, she seemed a bit more settled. I’d suggest keeping an eye on her over the coming days.
At 17:45, cow 214 was grazing alone in the pasture near ///builds.grain.clapper, enjoying the long grass. A little later, cows 234 and 940, along with steers 33, 222, and 1640, were lying down further south near ///cried.bath.jumps, relaxing and chewing their cud. Nearby, steers 21, 35, 217, 220, 271, and 1626 were grazing contentedly in small groups.
At 18:25, youngster 230 was grazing near ///slices.below.goofy. He soon came over to say hello and enjoy an especially long back rub, wriggling around to make sure I reached all his itchy spots. Nearby, steers 20, 228, and 270 were happily grazing to the southwest.
At 18:50, youngster 219 was standing in Horse Pond, soaking his feet while chewing his cud in the shade. He soon made his way to the bank to enjoy a long back, neck, and head rub — staying in the water the whole time. Steer 30 and cow 72 were browsing in the bushes along the path northeast of the pond.
The cows were all good today, except for cow 1396, who seemed a little out of sorts and would benefit from being monitored over the coming days.
