Cow 940, along with steers 20, 35, and 270, were relaxing near their favourite Sandy Hill corner at 16:20 this afternoon. Shortly after I arrived, cow 940 came over to say hello before settling down right in front of me. Yearling 270 was lying down, relaxing and chewing his cud in the shade. Unfortuntely, the number of ticks on the sides of his neck doesn't seem to be decreasing.
Around 16:30, five of the Sussex cattle appeared, wandering along Sandy Hill from the west. Steers 197 and 210 continued to graze near the pill box. Cow 1396 was completely fine today, coming over to say hello before joining the others on the corner. Cows 211 and 212 were especially friendly, both enjoying long head and neck rubs while resting in the sunshine. Cow 211 was particularly affectionate, offering gentle head rubs and plenty of licks in return. All nine cattle were happy, relaxed, and looking well.
At 17:05, ten members of the original Caesar's herd were resting under the shade of the trees to the west of Horse Pond. Yearling 271 was standing in the water, soaking his feet while peacefully chewing his cud. Despite being in among the trees, many of the others came over to greet me and enjoy some strokes and rubs. At 17:20, youngster 227 came wandering through the trees from the west, announcing his arrival with a loud moo. He quickly settled and happily received a long back scratch. All eleven were content, healthy, and looking well.
The remaining five cattle were found grazing in the pasture to the north of James Bond Pond at 17:50. Cow 72 was busy wrestling with the branches of some silver birch trees, reaching for the tastiest leaves. Nearby, steers 30, 219, 230, and 1626 were happily grazing. Youngsters 219 and 230 were in the swampy area at the southeast corner of the pasture, munching on plenty of long grass and bushes. Both took a break from grazing to wander over for a hello and some back rubs. All five were relaxed, content, and in good condition.
The cows were all good today.
