Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Tuesday 19th August - All 25 seen

At 17:00 this afternoon, Sussex steer 210 was grazing contentedly beside the larger fishing lake on the Gelvert reserve. Nearby, steers 197 and 1640, along with cows 211, 212 and 1396, were lying among the trees to the southeast near ///spud.supply.masts, relaxing and chewing their cud. All six looked happy, relaxed, and in good condition.

At 17:40, steers 33, 219, 222, 230, and 270, together with cow 72, were resting in the long grass near ///calm.sped.panthers, northeast of the water tower. With plenty of flies about, they were seeking cover. Youngsters 222 and 230 were especially friendly, getting up for long neck and back rubs. The small white spot in the corner of youngster 219's left eye appeared unchanged since Sunday. He was happy for me to sit beside him, brushing flies from his face while he rested and chewed his cud.

By 18:05, steer 217 and cows 214 and 234 arrived from the northwest, stopping off at the pool of water near ///jeeps.cars.movements for a drink. Their arrival prompted the group of six to get up and join them. After a while, they began grazing together in the surrounding area, with youngster 230 lingering for another back scratch. At 18:20, older steers 20, 21, and 35, also appeared from the northwest, joining steer 33 at the water. The boys were all thirsty, taking on plenty of water. As I was leaving, the group had started to wander up the hill towards James Bond Pond. All twelve were happy, relaxed, and looking well.

At 18:40, the final group of seven, including Sussex steer 1626, were grazing near ///tender.claim.lush, not far from the Sandy Bowl. Youngsters 220 and 228 were busy foraging for acorns, while the others munched on fresh grass and browsed leaves. Youngster 227 came over for a long back scratch before rejoining the group. Gradually, they moved north across the path to graze on the far side, enjoying the heather and more leaves. All seven looked healthy and content. I said my goodbyes at 19:20 leaving them all peacefully grazing.

The cows were all good today.
