Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Sunday 30th April - All 17 seen (eventually)

    Cows 72, 213, 217, 219, 220, 222, 228 and 230 were all grazing amongst the trees and bushes on Hungry Hill at 15:40 this afternoon.  After eating for a while, they all slowly descended the side of the hill, grazing as they came.  

    Older cows 20, 21, 30, 33, 35 and 940 plus youngster 221 were all munching on grass at the bottom of Hungry Hill in the area around ///coping.styled.flap at 16:00.
      
    After a while, the cows all crossed over the path into the central overgrown area and headed off grazing towards the Royal Pavilion end of the site.  There was no sign of youngsters 226 or 235 in any of the surrounding areas.

    By 17:40 the seven older cows plus youngster 213 were found grazing in the thicket around ///hunt.surely.cling.  The seven other youngsters had gone off on their own and were found grazing in the area around ///straw.gashes.dives at 18:10.  

    I eventually found youngsters 226 and 235 at 18:25.  They appeared from the side of the path that goes up to the Lookout, and had obviously been busy grazing in the thicket under the Lookout.  Youngster 235 came wandering over, said hello and went back to grazing with youngster 226.  They were completely unaware that I had been worried about them :-).

    The cows were all good today.

    Saturday 29th April - All 17 seen

    Cows 21, 72, 217, 226 and 940 were all grazing in the sunshine in the area around ///clumped.rave.leans at 10:30 this morning.  They were all happily munching on the growing grass.

    Cows 20, 30, 33, 35, 220, 221 and 222 were all spread out, lying down relaxing and chewing their cud close by around ///trickled.fewest.pizzeria.  Youngsters 213, 219 and 230 were grazing among them, but they soon lay down.

    Youngsters 228 and 235 were grazing in the heather at the back of them around ///editor.patrolled.effort.  After eating for a while, they wandered over and joined the others.

    Unfortunately, the warm weather has brought the flies and a number of the cows had a fair few flies on their faces.  Other than that, they were all back together and good today.

    Thursday 27th April - All 17 seen

    A group of nine cows were lying down resting in the area around ///front.mixing.twisty at 13.00 this afternoon.   They were all very relaxed, with some chewing their cud and others snoozing.  Older cow 30 was munching in the gorse bushes behind them.

    The other seven, cows 72, 213, 219, 226, 228, 235 and 940 were all lying down around ///smirks.units.mows at the side of James Bond pond at 13:35.  They, too, were all very relaxed and were busy chewing their cud except for youngster 228 who was resting his eyes.

    The cows were all good today.

    Wednesday 26th April - All 17 seen

    Youngsters 217, 219, 220, 221, 222 and 226 were all found grazing in the area around ///hockey.mess.puddles at 16:40 this afternoon.  Several were wading through large pools of water and climbing small hills to get the best dinner.  Older cows 72 and 940 were grazing in the bushes around ///hoped.units.regard.  Older cow 30 and youngsters 228, 230 and 235 were munching on leaves around ///avid.routs.dabble.

    Cows 20, 21, 33, 35 and 213 were all busy grazing around ///dome.headers.hikes a short while later.  They were soon joined by cows 30, 222 and 230.   

    Youngsters 217, 220 and 221 continued to graze in the area where they were first found, slowly wandering towards ///hotel.study.suits where they were enjoying some gorse.

    Cows 72, 219, 226, 228, 235 and 940 slowly set off down the path alongside James Bond Pond, grazing as they went.  They continued wandering and had made it as far as ///scorch.valued.waving by 17:40.

    The cows were all good today, albeit all over the place.

    Sunday 23rd April - All 17 seen

    All seventeen cows were near their favourite corner on Sandy Hill at 10:35 this morning.  They were all rather damp but seemed happy enough despite the light rain showers.

    Youngsters 219, 220, 222 and 226 were all happily munching on grass in the area around ///flight.direction.reflected.  Older cow 21 and youngsters 213, 217 and 235 were doing the same around ///woof.passenger.diverts.  Youngsters 213 and 235 in particular were munching away with gusto on the fresh, tasty grass.

    The other nine were spread out, standing on the corner, relaxing and chewing their cud.

    By 11:05 the cows had started to lie down with older cow 30 and youngsters 221, 228 and 230 leading the way.

    The cows were all good today.

    Saturday 22nd April - All 17 seen

    Youngster 226 was grazing in the area around the pillbox on Sandy Hill at 10:50 this morning.  She ended up going into it, but I encouraged her out as it was full of rubbish and broken glass.  I picked up a load of broken glass in the surrounding area, worried about the cow's feet.   Older cow 30 was munching in the gorse bushes alongside the pillbox.

    Older cow 33 and youngster 222 were lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud close by.  Youngster 220 was happily munching on the growing grass.

    A mixed group of ten cows were huddled together, lying down in the area around ///splints.grades.placed at 11.15.  They were all resting and were alternating between chewing their cud and snoozing.  Older cow 72 was standing amongst them chewing her cud but soon lay down.  Older cow 20 had his head over the fence line munching on holly leaves.

    The cows were all good today.

    Thursday 20th April - All 17 seen

    Cow 35 was standing chewing his cud on the corner of Sandy Hill at 14:10 this afternoon.  Cow 30 was standing the other side of the path doing the same, while cow 33 was munching away in the gorse bushes.  Cows 20, 21, 72, 213, 219, 222, 226, 228, 235 and 940 were all happily grazing in the area around ///tuned.distorts.stole. They all started slowly wandering along Sandy Hill towards the Shell garage end of site.

    Youngsters 217 and 221 were found in the bushes at ///include.politics.permit at the far end of Longbottom at 14:40.   Youngsters 220 and 230 were grazing close by around ///captive.quite.norms.

    By 15:30 thirteen cows had made it to the area around ///ideals.desks.memo where they continued to graze.  They soon started to lie down and chew their cud.  Cows 30, 35, 213 and 219 were munching on leaves in the bushes at ///fuse.diets.react. 

    The cows were all good today.








    Sunday 15th September - All 24 seen

    I came across yearling 270 and Sussex steer 1626 near ///stirs.inkjet.toned at 09:20 this morning. They were both gazing out over the pastur...
