All twenty-four cattle were found near the Lookout at 16:40 this afternoon. The seven Sussex cattle, along with cow 940, were happily grazing in the warm sunshine in the pasture to the southwest. Most of the others were resting at the Lookout, lying down and chewing their cud, while youngster 230 and yearling 270 grazed nearby. They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.
Gradually, the cows stood up, stretched, and continued chewing their cud. At 17:05, once steer 21 got up, the whole group began to follow the path southwest, stopping to drink from puddles along the way. Cows 211, 212, 940 and 1396 remained grazing, enjoying lots of grass, while Sussex steers 197, 210, 1626 and 1640 preferred to stand, relax, and chew their cud. Several cows came over for back rubs, including cow 211, who gave me friendly licks after enjoying a long neck and back rub. It was lovely to spend some relaxing time with them.
Shortly before 17:45, I heard motorbikes approaching the area where the cows had wandered, so I went to check on them. The cows were spread out grazing near ///blogs.keep.speech. Three scramblers had stopped nearby, but soon moved off towards the Lookout. I reported their presence to the MoD Ops Room. The cows remained unaffected and continued grazing peacefully in the sunshine.
As I prepared to leave at around 18:05, I came across the seven Sussex cattle and cow 940 again, still grazing but heading towards the rest of the group.
The cows were all good today.
