Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Wednesday 4th September - All 25 seen - Steer 219's left eye appeared more red than before

The group of six Sussex cattle was found grazing near ///array.zips.gives at 16:40 this afternoon. They were very friendly and came over to say hello. After a while, they began to wander southeast along the main path. I walked with them for a bit since I was heading in the same direction. They all looked well.

Steer 20 was lying down, resting and chewing his cud near ///gazes.splints.teeth at 17:00. He appeared very relaxed and looked well. Nearby, cows 72 and 940, along with steers 30, 227 and 228, were happily grazing.

At 17:15, a mixed group of nine cows were resting at Horse Pond. Cow 234, along with steers 33, 219, 270 and 271, were standing on the south bank, while cow 214 and steers 217 and 220 were chewing their cud under a tree. Youngster 222 was happily eating lily pads deep in the pond. Steer 219 was again bothered by numerous flies around his eyes. The ulcer in his left eye appeared more red than before, and his eye was watery with a few tears streaming down his face.

At around 17:25, the group of six Sussex cattle appeared on the north side of the pond, mooing several times to let steer 1626 know that they had come to collect him. He soon emerged from the thicket on the eastern side of the pond and joined his friends as they headed north. At 17:45, I found them all together, happily grazing on heather near ///spray.love.arose.

When I returned to Horse Pond, I found steers 21, 35 and 230 deep in the thicket in the pasture to the east of the pond. They were happily munching on long grass and leaves from the bushes, looking happy and relaxed.

By 18:05, the group of nine from Horse Pond had walked along and joined the group of six. They were all spread out, happily grazing. Several were on the slope of Hungry Hill. Youngster 222 was happily munching on grass, drying off from his earlier adventures. I said my goodbyes at 18:30.

The cows were all good today.
