Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

Saturday 15th March - All 25 seen - cow 940 has a scrape on her rear left side and steer 35 has a small scratch on his front left ankle

Steers 35, 219, 228, 230, and 1626, along with cow 940, were happily grazing near their favourite Sandy Hill corner at 09:15 this morning. They were all friendly and came over to greet me, with the youngsters especially enjoying some strokes. Nearby, steers 33, 220, and 227 were munching among the gorse bushes. After a while, steers 35 and 219, along with cow 940, wandered along to Hungry Hill to graze.

Steer 35 has a small scratch on his front left ankle, and cow 940 has a scrape on her rear left side. Neither injury appeared to be causing them any discomfort. Otherwise, all nine cattle were happy, relaxed, and in good health.

Cows 214 and 234, along with steers 222 and 271, were grazing a bit further west on Sandy Hill near ///lined.spoils.flick at 10:05. They were enjoying plenty of grass and gorse. Further west, steers 20, 30, 217, and 270, along with cow 72, were grazing among the gorse bushes near ///crystal.mild.access. All nine were happy and healthy, and there was no noticeable change to the graze on steer 20's leg. I've included a new photo below.

By 11:35, steer 21 and 211 cow were grazing near ///replaces.slept.cello at the Shell garage end of the site. Cow 211 greeted me warmly before settling in for a long back rub while she ate. Nearby, the other five Sussexes were grazing deep in the gorse bushes, but slowly emerged to relax in the sunshine. Several were happy to have the gorse brushed from their backs. All seven were content and looking well.

At 12:35, after many splits and regroupings—including yearlings 270 and 271 briefly getting separated and needing a little guidance to find each other—the two groups of nine had come together near ///mallets.resting.pets at the west end of Sandy Hill. They began settling down to relax and chew their cud in the sunshine.

The cows were all good today.
