Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Wednesday 19th March - All 25 seen

Steers 20, 222, and 230 were lying down in the bracken near ///bonus.whisk.trickle, southwest of Horse Pond, at 10:30 this morning. Youngster 230 got up to say hello and enjoyed a long back scratch, rocking back and forth to make sure I reached all his itchy spots. Over the past few days, I've noticed the herd is starting to shed their winter coats. Steer 35 was grazing on the northern bank of the pond, while steer 21 nibbled on gorse near the south bank. The boys were all happy, relaxed, and looking well.

At 11:10, I found the group of six Sussexes grazing at the west end of Sandy Hill. Steer 210, along with cows 211, 212 and 1396, slowly moved north to graze near ///mount.quest.polar. Steers 197 and 1640 were too focused on the grass and ended up lagging behind. After some time, and plenty of mooing, they caught up with the others. All six were happy and relaxed.

A mixed group of twelve cattle were gathered near ///bars.fresh.cornfield at 11:50. Most were resting and chewing their cud, while a few munched on gorse. By 12:05, they had wandered south toward the Shell garage, stopping near ///cross.rags.vision. Soon, they started to settle down, enjoying scratches against tree branches before lying down to relax in the warm sunshine. They all appeared content and in good health.

Steers 227 and 271 were further northwest, in the wooded area near ///flask.crop.grin at 12:25. Yearling 271 was lying down, chewing his cud among the trees, while youngster 227 munched on gorse nearby. There was a large army presence on the higher ground to their south. After a while, the boys followed me back to the group of twelve, reuniting with their friends at 12:45. Most of the group was now lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud. Yearling 271 quickly settled down, while youngster 227 enjoyed a long back rub before doing the same. The boys were looking well.

I said my goodbyes to the group just after 13:00, leaving them all resting in the sunshine.

The cows were all good today.
