Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Thursday 15th June - All 15 seen - lots of flies

Youngsters 217, 228 and 230 were all hiding amongst the bracken in the area around ///talent.host.reply at 17:20 this evening.  Youngsters 219 and 222 were lying down, chewing their cud in the long grass close by.  There were a lot of flies around, and the cows seemed to be taking cover from them.   The three in the bushes soon wandered over and lay down beside cows 219 and 222.

Older cow 30 was lying down chewing his cud at ///gloves.call.wacky.   Youngster 220 and yearlings 270 and 271 were grazing to the side of him.   After a while, all eight cows lay down in the area around cow 30.  They were all very restless though and were constantly shaking their heads or getting up, repositioning, and lying back down.

The six other older cows were all lying down together around ///study.abandons.truth.  They were all resting and chewing their cud.  The area they were in was a bit more sheltered from the sun, and they weren't being bothered by as many flies.   By 18:10, cows 219, 220, 222, 228 and 271 had wandered over and lay down beside the six older cows.

The cows were all OK this evening.
