Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Monday 14th October - All 25 seen

Despite the constant drizzle, steers 21, 35 and 219, along with the seven Sussex cattle, were found lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud near ///recur.strict.allow at 14:30. The older steers were nestled in the bracken, while the Sussexes huddled together. They were all good.

Due to the weather, the cows had likely been lying down for a while and weren’t very active. Their movement was limited to occasionally standing, stretching and then settling back into the same dry spots. Only one tracking collar appeared on the map.

At 14:45, cow 234 was resting alone near ///later.saloons.headless. She had found a cosy spot under some trees, surrounded by gorse, heather, and bracken. Although she was by herself, she seemed perfectly content.

Steers 33, 220, 228 and 271, along with cow 72, were lying down in the heather on the higher ground near ///fairy.tigers.beanbag at 14:50. They were all resting and chewing their cud.

From the higher ground, I spotted more cows in the distance. When I got closer, I found steers 20 and 222, along with cows 214 and 940, near ///hooked.pegs.juices at 15:00. They, too, were lying down and resting.

I continued on a loop of the site, searching for the remaining five. As I descended the hill just along from the Lookout, I spotted them in the distance. At 15:50, steers 30, 217, 227, 230 and 270 were lying on the hillside near ///craziest.grow.bucked, surrounded by bracken and gorse. The boys were all well.

Just after 16:00, as I was preparing to leave, the cows from the first and fourth groups began to get up and graze together. Cow 234 came wandering along and, after exchanging moos with cow 940, the two started grazing side by side.

The cows were all good today.
