I didn't make it out until later this afternoon, hoping to find all the cows together, but they were anything but! 😊
Steers 20, 30, 33, 222, 227, 228 and 1640, along with cows 72, 234 and 940, were well spread out grazing at the Royal Pavilion end of the site at 16:55. Several were near the hill by the Sandy Bowl, while steers 30 and 33 were munching on gorse across the path. The rest were grazing on heather and leaves near ///ruler.soil.washed. Eventually, the cows began to gather in this area.
At 17:40, the other six Sussex cattle were grazing in the thicket on the hillside near ///damp.fatigued.grab, enjoying plenty of gorse. Slowly, they made their way down to the bottom of the hill to say hello and get the gorse brushed off their backs. They all looked well.
Steers 217, 219, 220 and 270, along with cow 214, were spread out grazing in the pasture near ///envoy.takes.logs at 18:00. Steer 219 had wandered far north, almost to the Gelvert entrance, munching on heather. Shortly after, I found steers 21, 230 and 271 grazing near ///feuds.wimp.diets. They all seemed happy, relaxed and in good condition.
Even though it was completely dark by 18:40, I passed the first group again. They were grazing near ///gazes.boost.whom, with the missing steer 35 now among them.
For information, the MoD has put up new signs along the recently installed fence.
The cows were all good today.
