Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Saturday 12th October - All 25 seen

At 09:45 this morning, steers 20, 219, 220, 222 and 271, along with cows 72 and 214, were grazing on Sandy Hill, just beyond the pillbox. They were all enjoying the grass, except for cow 72, who was resting. After a while, she wandered off to join the others.

Yearling 270 was found grazing on the hill near ///chose.helper.typed at 10:10. Youngster 217 was grazing by the path south of James Bond pond, while older steer 30 was wrestling with tree branches to the east. After checking steer 30, I noticed more cattle in the distance, grazing in the pasture northeast of the pond. Steer 35, along with cows 234 and 940, were happily munching on heather. By 10:35, I returned to the south side and found that steers 21, 33, 227 and 228 had come out of hiding and were busy grazing.

Conscious that I hadn't found steer 230, I began searching the surrounding area and found  him grazing near ///mills.plugs.cool at 10:50. He stopped to say hello and enjoyed a back rub. Although he was on his own, he seemed fine. After a while, he crossed Longbottom and moved to the far end of Sandy Hill, where he grazed briefly before wandering east along the hill.

The seven Sussex cattle were grazing together near ///bumps.colonies.gong at the Shell garage end of the site at 11:05. Most were very friendly and came over to say hello. They were covered in gorse leaves, which they were happy for me to brush off their backs. Cow 211, as usual, was super friendly, giving me head rubs and licks.

As I was leaving at 11:35, I found the first group of cows relaxing on their favourite Sandy Hill corner. Youngster 222 was still munching on grass, while the others were lying down chewing their cud. I was delighted to see that youngster 230 had caught up with the group and was lying down, resting.

The cows were all good today.
