Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Saturday 26th October - All 25 seen

Cows 72 and 940 were grazing alone on Sandy Hill near ///figure.clef.olive just before 09:30 this morning. Although it was unusual to see them on their own, they were both fine, happily munching grass as they made their way east along the hill. They stopped briefly to say hello.

At 09:40, Sussex cows 212 and 1396, along with steers 210 and 1626, were grazing near ///marsh.mugs.congas. They were looking well and enjoying plenty of grass.

A mixed group of fourteen cows was gathered near ///stitch.livid.wording at 09:50, some happily grazing while others relaxed and chewed their cud. This group included Shetland steers 20, 21, 30, 33, 35, 217, 219, 222, 230 and 270, Sussex steers 197 and 1640, along with cow 211, and British White cow 234. Most of them were very friendly, coming over to say hello.

While giving youngster 230 a back rub, I noticed steers 227 and 228 on the path north of James Bond pond at 10:05. As I walked over to see them, they mooed several times. Both were fine but seemed to be searching for missing herd members. They soon moved southwest and joined the larger group, now grazing in the pasture near ///dockers.hills.tonic.

Around 10:20, I heard a distinctive moo and saw steers 220 and 271 coming around the corner, having come up from the Shell garage end of the site. Cow 214 followed soon after. All three joined the group, with the boys mooing numerous times as they approached the group. I spent some quiet time with them as they grazed, with several coming over for strokes and back scratches.

Just as I was about to leave at 10:55, I noticed cows 72 and 940 returning along Sandy Hill. They wandered into the woods at hill's west end before stopping for a rest. They were likely trying to find the others but headed off in the wrong direction. Feeling sorry for them, I walked them back to the pasture, where they happily rejoined the group at 11:10.

The cows were all good today.
