Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Saturday 13th January - All 19 seen

Steer 35 was guarding a lick that someone had kindly put out for the cows at 09:30 this morning.  It was right in the middle of the path around ///proposals.prickly.leaps.  Youngsters 222 and 234 were keen to share, but steer 35 was having none of it.  Steer 21 was just walking away as I was approaching, so expect he'd been eating it before steer 35.  The youngsters both said hello while waiting for steer 35 to finish.

Cows 214 and 215 plus steers 30, 217, 219, 220, 228, 270 and 271 were all munching on gorse, long grass, holly leaves and heather in the area to the south-west, towards Horse Pond.  They were well spread out, grazing in one's and two's.  They started to come together in the pasture to the east of the pond.  Youngster 227 must have been hiding, but wandered along to have some of the lick at 10:15.  After a while, he returned to join in with the grazing.

Cows 72 and 940 plus steers 20, 33 and 230 were all spread out munching on gorse and heather in the area around ///assess.spines.apart.  They were all looking really well.

The cows continued to graze, with most coming together to eat heather on the hill around ///limits.teams.nitrate at 11:15.  Cow 215 was her usual friendly self and was happy to stand and get a head rub while chewing her cud.  Steers 21, 30, 217, 219, 228 and 230 were all still eating at the side of Horse Pond as I was saying goodbye.

For awareness, I moved the lick onto the grass at the side of the path as I was leaving.  I'd noticed a few people giving it a kick, and thought it best to move it out of the way.

The cows were all good today.
