Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Sunday 14th January - All 19 seen

Steer 30 and cow 72 were found in the area around ///cowboys.yoga.defrost at 10:25 this morning.  Steer 217 was near by, munching at the edge of the gorse bushes.  Cows 215 and 234 plus steers 219, 230 and 271 were eating deep in the gorse bushes.  They popped out one by one, said hello, and went back in to eat some more.  The older cows soon joined them.

Older steers 20 and 33 plus yearling 270 were munching on heather in the area around ///grunt.spotty.satin at 11:10.  Youngsters 220, 227 and 228 were eating gorse in the bushes a bit further north, very near the Lookout.  From their position, I could see I'd missed steers 21, 35 and 222 who were all grazing below around ///navy.slim.sprinter.  Youngster 228 went off for a long walk to find some clean water and ended up way along the path behind.  He'd cut through the gorse bushes and was back with the first three by the time I'd made it back round.

Shortly after 11:30, cows 214 and 940 emerged from the gorse bushes around ///scoots.harps.named and joined the boys.  At 11:45 steers 21, 33 and 222 joined the group, having climbed up the side of the hill.  Just after noon, all eleven wandered past the Lookout and started to graze in the area around ///refer.cloud.usual.

I returned to the first group at 12:20, by which time the sun had come out.  Steer 30 and yearling 271 were lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud.  Cow 215 and steers 217, 219 and 230 were all standing enjoying the sunshine while chewing their cud.  As I was walking towards them, I'd noticed that cow 214 had wandered off and was nearly down where the lick was found yesterday.  I went to see her, and she was relaxing in the sun while cow 72 was eating the lick.  Cow 215 had decided to follow me, and when she got near, she let out a loud moo, which prompted the boys to all came running.  Cow 72 saw off attempts from youngsters 217 and 219 to share the lick, but was eventually pushed off it by steer 30.

The cows were all good today.
