Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Saturday 11th May - All 26 seen - Steer 197 has lost his front left ear tag plus some concern around cow 940's left ear

Fourteen cows were happily grazing on their favourite Sandy Hill corner at 08.40 this morning.  Cows 72, 215 and 940 plus steers 30, 33, 35, 217, 219, 220, 222, 228, 230, 270 and 271 were all happy and enjoying the sunshine.  By 09:10 most had started to lie down and relax while chewing their cud.  A couple preferred to rest their eyes.  Cow 72 remained standing chewing her cud while steer 35 continued to munch on the fresh grass.

Sussex cow 1396 plus steers 1626 and 1640 were found grazing in the area around ///access.pixel.jotting at 09:20.  Steers 20, 21 and 227 plus cows 214 and 234 were grazing nearby to their northeast.  They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.  Steer 227 came over to say hello and received a back and ear rub while standing in the sunshine.

The other four Sussexes, steers 197 and 210 plus cows 211 and 212, were grazing around ///hush.servants.wheat at 09.35.  Steer 197 took a break and went and stood in the shade under a tree.  He has lost his front left ear tag.  The other three continued to happily graze.  Steer 197 went and took a big drink of water from a nearby puddle before getting back to grazing.  They were all good.

Retuning to the Sandy Hill corner at 09.55 and the cows were all lying down relaxing.  They were all looking really well.  Cow 940 appears to have some mud caught around the metal clip on the front of her left ear.  I've sent a couple of photos to Tom at HIWWT for a second opinion, just to ensure there is nothing else wrong.

The cows were all good today.
