Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Saturday 4th May - All 26 seen

Steers 35 and 219 plus cows 234 and 940 were found under the trees at the Royal Pavilion end of the site around ///leads.vision.left at 09:15 this morning.  Youngster 219 was busy grazing with the others relaxing in the shade.  They were soon joined by steers 20, 222 and 271 plus cows 72 and 215 who had been grazing in the thicket to the south.  They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

Steers 21, 30, 33, 217, 220, 228, 227, 230 and 270 plus cow 214 were all found around ///rider.sticks.horns at the west end of the sandy bowl at 09:45.  Most were lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud.  A few were preferring to stand.  There were a huge number of flies around today, making things uncomfortable for the cows.  Youngster 230 came and said hello and used me as a human fly guard.  He was happy to receive a long back and shoulders rub.  After a while, steers 20, 219, 222, 271 plus cows 215 and 234 from the first group joined them.  As I was leaving them at 10:15, some of the cows had started to go under the shade of the trees.

Five of the Sussex cattle were found in the area around ///blitz.drag.nests at 10:20.  Steer 210 and cow 212 were lying down, relaxing.  Cows 211 and 1396 plus steer 1626 were munching on the long grass.  Cow 211 came and said hello and gave my hand a good lick before lying down beside the first two.  Steers 197 and 1640 were happily munching on grass to the east.  The Sussex cattle were all good, but had huge numbers of flies on their faces.

As I was wandering back to the sandy bowl area, I met steer 35 and cows 72 and 940 in the trees around ///steep.shield.text at 10:50.   They were all relaxing and chewing their cud.   I was surprised to see the main herd grazing in the distance off to the southeast, having expected them to have remained resting under the trees.

The cows were all good today.

For awareness, the cows were checked on Thursday evening.  They were all good and were spread out in groups along the length of the site, from the Royal Pavilion to Beacon Hill Road.  I didn't have any charge in my phone, so no W3W or photos.  I didn't get home till late and got called out by work and forgot to blog.
