Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Thursday 16th May - All 26 seen

Steers 21, 30, 33, 222, 227 and 230 plus cows 72, 215, 234 and 940 were well spread out grazing in the pasture around ///veal.uncouth.sake at 16:40 this afternoon.  They were enjoying the sunshine before it clouded over.  The cows were all happy and relaxed.

About fifteen minutes later, just as I was finishing checking the last of them, the seven Sussex cattle came wandering along the path from Horse Pond.  They stopped and said hello to their fellow cows, and me, before six of them crossed over the path and started to graze around ///dive.vest.else.  Steer 1626 opted to stay and started to graze with the first group.

Steer 20 was found lying down, relaxing and chewing his cud in the area around ///wound.plunger.plus at 17:15.  Steers 35, 217, 219, 220, 270 and 271 plus cow 214 were all grazing in the surrounding pasture.  They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.  Slowly most of the cows from the first group, including Sussex steer 1626, wandered over and joined them.

Having not seen youngster 228, I returned to the area where the first group of cows had been grazing and spotted him eating in the area around ///apple.limp.likes at 17:30.  He was good and had been joined by cows 72 and 940.  Steers 30, 227 and cow 234 were still grazing nearby.  The six Sussex cattle were also seen in the distance up near Hungry Hill.  Ten minutes later, steer 1626 appeared and started to graze, before wandering up the hill to join his herd mates.

Sadly, there didn't appear to be much improvement to cow 940's ear today.  It still looks infected.  The wound didn't appear to be bleeding today, which is a positive.  Otherwise, she appeared to be fine and was happily grazing.

With the exception of cow 940, the cows were all good today.
