Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Wednesday 15th May - All 26 seen - Cow 940's ear infection appears to have been bleeding

At 16:45, the seven Sussex cattle were all lying down, resting in the pasture around ///summit.movie.became. They were all relaxing and chewing their cud in the warm afternoon sunshine. Despite many flies on their faces, they were all looking really well.

Steers 33, 217, 219, 227, 228, 270 and 271 plus cows 72, 214, 234 and 940 were all grazing in the area around ///behalf.almost.unravel at 17:15.  They quickly moved through the gorse bushes and out into the pasture to the east.  The cows continued to graze in the warm sunshine.  Steer 227 wandered over to James Bond pond and had a big drink.

Steer 30 and cow 215 were standing, relaxing and chewing their cud in the area around ///diver.marker.armed at 17:40.  Steers 35, 220 and 222 were all happily grazing nearby.  Cow 30 soon lay down and started to rest.  They were all looking well.

Steers 20, 21 and 230 were grazing in the area to the southeast of the covered reservoir around ///pods.change.noble ten minutes later.  They were all enjoying lots of the long grasses growing in the area.  The boys were all good.

It looks like the wound on cow 940's ear had been bleeding today.  Not only did the area appear more red today, but she also had some blood just above her left eye where her ear had been flapping forward.  The wound was also visible from within her ear today.  Again, she seemed otherwise okay and was eating and moving around fine.

With the exception of cow 940, the cows were all good today.
