Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Monday 24th June - All 25 seen

Steers 20 and 30 plus cows 72 and 940 were found in the cow shed at 16:10 this afternoon. The girls were lying down, relaxing. The boys were standing against the side wall and were chewing their cud. Despite it being rather warm in the shed, they were all okay. I was able to get a close up photo of Brie's sore foot, which I've shared with the Grazing Team. The other fourteen Caesar's originals plus Sussex steer 1626 were all in the trees to the west of Horse Pond at 16:35. There were many flies, so there was a fair bit of head shaking and foot stomping going on. Several of the cows still came over to say hello. Youngsters 220 and 230 were standing in the water, keeping extra cool. Despite the warm conditions, the cows all looked well.

The other six Sussexes had just begun to graze in the pasture around ///feel.sounds.easy at 17:10. They had all been in the shade, among the trees to the south. For a short time, the sun went behind the clouds, and it was actually quite pleasant. The cows were all happy and were enjoying lots of fresh grass.  They were all relaxed and looking well.  Steer 197 and cow 211 were their usual friendly selves and came and said hello. They were happy to receive ear rubs before getting back to eating.
As I was leaving at 17:30, steers 20 and 30 were munching on grass in the area around ///hops.racks.relay. Cows 72 and 940 were a little further northwest, eating leaves from the trees and bushes. Cow 940 only took a couple of steps but was still seen to be limping.

Despite the warm weather, the cows were all good this afternoon.
