Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Sunday 2nd June - All 25 seen

Steers 217, 219, 220, 228 and 271 plus cows 214 and 234 were lying down in the shade on Sandy Hill around ///dream.droplet.hacksaw at 09:50 this morning.  They were all relaxing and chewing their cud.  Youngster 228 soon got up, had a stretch and came and said hello.  I expected to find steers 222 and 230 with this group, but they were nowhere to be found.

Sussex cow 1396 and steer 1640 were lying down relaxing and enjoying the sunshine around ///pinches.shifts.vehicle, not too far from the Lookout at 10:20.  The other five Sussexes were happily grazing close by, but soon also lay down. Steer 21 was lying down, chewing his cud about 50 metres to the east of them.  Steer 227 was even further east, buried in the bracken chewing his cud.

Steers 20, 30, 33, 35 and 270 plus cows 72 and 940 had been standing under the trees at the Lookout but slowly made their way along to the area around ///salon.boasted.spans.  They quickly spread out and started to graze at 10:35.  Steer 227 had got up and wandered along with them.  They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

At 10:55, I was surprised to see the seven Sussex cattle, who had all looked settled, come wandering along with steer 21 to join the group.   All sixteen cows grazed together in the warm sunshine.

After a short while, I began the search for the two missing steers, 222 and 230.  I went back to the first group, who were just setting off west along Sandy Hill at 11:15.  The boys hadn't joined them.  I walked with them until they got near James Bond pond, when I said cheerio and went off to check the Shell garage end of the site.

After a long search, in the warm sun, I eventually found the boys at 12:40.  Guinness and Gums were relaxing in the shade under the trees at the west end of Horse Pond.  They were both standing with their feet in the pond, keeping cool.  Both of them seemed happy and relaxed, and they seemed happy to see a familiar face.  Youngster 230 enjoyed a neck rub while standing in the water.

The cows were all good today.
