Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Tuesday 18th June - 23 seen

Cows 72, 214, 234 and 940 plus steers 20, 33, 217, 219, 227 and 270 had just started to graze in the pasture around ///wipes.pest.define at 15:50 this afternoon.  They were all enjoying eating plenty of long grasses.  Despite a large number of flies, the cows were all happy, relaxed and looking well.  They slowly wandered southwest, getting to the path at the far end of the pasture by 16.30 when I said goodbye to them.

The seven Sussex cattle plus steers 30, 220, 222, 228, 230 and 271 were all found at the far western end of the site at the corral by Beacon Hill Road at 17:05.  They were all initially munching on fresh grass, but soon started to relax and chew their cud.  Cow 211 wandered over to say hello and was happy to receive an ear rub followed by a back scratch.  Steer 30 went and lay down in the dense bracken by the Gelvert fence line.  He was completely hidden.  Steer 1626 was trying his best to hide too.  The cows were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

I was surprised not to have found steers 21 and 35 with the second group, but after searching the surrounding area, including the woods along the Beacon Hill Road, they were nowhere to be found.  I continued searching for the boys, eventually ending up back at the first group at 18:35.  The group of ten were all munching on fresh grass in the sunshine around ///junior.heap.chair.  The boys hadn't joined them.  I continued searching for them until just after 19:00 without any luck.  I'm not sure where steers 21 and 35 were hiding out today.

The cows that were found were all good.
