Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Saturday 20th July - All 25 seen

Steers 20, 33, 230 and 271 plus cow 234 were all relaxing in the trees to the west of Horse Pond at 09:40 this morning.  They were all happy and looking well.  Steer 35 was in the water, munching on leaves from the trees.  He wandered round and said hello.  He was good as well.

Steers 21 and 227 plus cow 214 were munching on grass among the dense bracken around ///unite.remix.engage at 10:05.  While checking them, I saw steer 30 completing the climb up to the Lookout with yearling 270 part way up the steep hill.  I looped back around, taking the footpath up to the Lookout, and met steer 270 just as he was finishing his climb.  Steer 30 was standing, chewing his cud.  Youngsters 217, 220 and 219 were spread out grazing in the surrounding area.  They were all good.  Steer 21 and cow 214 both climbed up the side of the hill to reach the Lookout at 10:25.

Cows 72 and 940 plus youngsters 222 and 228 were grazing in the thicket under the Lookout around ///focal.spud.bakers at 10:35.  They were joined by steer 227, who decided to give climbing up the hill a miss.  They were all enjoying lots of long grass.  The cows were all friendly, with cow 72 giving me a nice head rub when she came to say hello.  Youngster 222 also came over, so he must have forgiven me for stealing his half-tennis ball 🤣.  They slowly grazed southwest.  They were all good.

After checking them, I walked back up to the Lookout to find most of the cows were lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud at 10:50.   Steers 21, 30 and 220 were lying in the bracken.

The seven Sussex cattle were found around ///chats.hunk.degree on Sandy Hill at 11:10.  They were all lying around the path, but steer 1640 got up as I was getting near.  He stepped forward and said hello.  The others were all lying down and were chewing their cud.  They all had a lot of flies on their faces but were looking well.  Steer 1640 soon lay back down.  I said my goodbyes just after 11:30.

The cows were all good today.  Lots of photos today due to them being spread out.
