Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

The eighteen Caesar's originals were all found at the cow shed at 11:45 this morning. Cows 72, 214, 234 and 940 plus steers 217, 219, 220, 228 and 271 were all relaxing in the shed. I've no idea what Gilbert (steer 219) had been up to, but he was covered in mud up to his knees. He came over and said hello. Older steers 33 and 35 were initially standing outside the shed, but they wandered off together to the northeast where they lay down in the shade buried in some bracken. They soon started to relax and chew their cud. Older steer 21 was sitting under some trees on the far side of the wooden foot bridge. The other steers were all lying down at the front of the shed. All eighteen were happy, relaxed and looking well.
I met up with the seven Sussexes just as they were getting to the west end of Longbottom at 12:40. They had been grazing on grass and leaves from the bushes at the side of the path as they wandered. They about turned and set off east, grazing along Sandy Hill. The boys 197 and 210 were their usual friendly selves and came and said hello and received back rubs. Cow 211 enjoyed a couple of long neck and back rubs. She gave me some nice head rubs and licks as a thank-you. Cow 1396 was also happy to stand and receive a back rub when she came and said hello. The Sussexes were all happy, relaxed and looking well. I stayed with them until they were about halfway along Sandy Hill, when I said goodbye shortly after 13:30.
The cows were all good today.
