All twenty-five cows were together but spread out around ///wink.dabbling.stages at 16:15 this afternoon. Most were sheltering from the heavy rain by standing close to the bushes just off the main path. They were all damp, but not soaking wet. Several of the Sussexes were sheltering in the bracken and gorse bushes. Cow 211 came over to say hello and receive a head and ear rub.
When the rain eased up, a number of the cows moved away from the bushes and stepped nearer the path, where they started to relax and chew their cud. They were all relaxed and looking well. Several said hello while they were being checked, with steer 227 enjoying a long neck scratch. Yearlings 270 and 271 plus youngster 220 were quick to get back to grazing in the surrounding area.
By 17:00 the cows had started to lie down and relax. Steers 217, 219 and 227 plus cow 940 led the way, lying down beside the bushes. They all continued to chew their cud. The Sussexes all came together in the pasture on the far side of the bushes and started to graze in the long grass and heather. They soon headed off down the hill, in the direction of the covered reservoir.
The cows were all good today.
