Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Sunday 7th April - All 26 seen

Steers 21, 210, 227 and 1640 were on Sandy Hill near the pill box at 09.10 this morning.  They were all mooing a lot and were looking down the slope as if they were trying to find other cows.  I checked them over, and they were all fine, and despite a good search I couldn't see any other cows nearby.  Steer 30 did emerge from the gorse bushes near their favourite corner about ten minutes later, but instead of joining them, he wandered east towards Hungry Hill.  The four steers set off west along Sandy Hill, still mooing occasionally.

Steer 30 continued to Hungry Hill and met up with steers 20 and 1626 who were grazing together around ///casual.bake.plus.  At 09:35, I found cows 72, 214, 234 and 940 plus steers 33, 217 and 228 wandering single file through the trees around ///rescue.spark.city.  Most emerged from the woods and wandered down to the area around ///loaf.sang.rods where cow 215 plus steers 219, 220, 270 and 271 were grazing.

Curious to see where the others had gone, I went back into the woods and found steers 20, 30, 222, 230 and 1626 plus cow 72 grazing around ///always.corn.most at 10:10.  A while later, they left the wooded area and started to wander down to where the other cows were grazing.

At 11:05, I caught up with steers 21, 35, 210 and 227 wandering along the side of the path at ///dreamer.fires.lads.  Steer 227 was mooing a lot again.  Ahead of them, at the entrance to Gelvert, were cows 211, 212 and 1396 plus steers 197 and 1640.  The four steers soon caught up with them, and they all followed the path along to Beacon Hill Road.  Steer 21 kept on prodding the Sussex group with his horns, so he got told off and then backed off 😊.  By 11:15 all nine had made it to corral at Beacon Hill Road where they started to relax and eat grass.  I watched them for about fifteen minutes and they all settled and were fine.

Despite the cows being well spread out in little groups, and some unusual activity from some of the steers, the cows were all good today.
