Saturday 31st August - All 25 seen - new photo of steer 219's eye below

Fourteen of Caesar's originals were grazing in the pasture near ///delusions.stag.states at 09:50 this morning. They were enjoying plenty of long grass, leaves and heather. After a while, they all lay down to relax and chew their cud. They were very friendly and came over to say hello. They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

The graze on steer 230's side has nearly disappeared. Steer 219 enjoyed a long head rub before allowing me to take a photo of his eye, which I've included below. Steer 20 was doing well today. His wound appears to be closing. He was happily grazing before having a grooming session with youngster 222. After that, he lay down and started to relax.

At 10:35, cow 72 and steer 30 had completely hidden themselves in the bracken near ///stoppage.snored.hints. Cow 940 was lying next to them, having made a bed from the heather. Steer 35 was grazing nearby, and his injury is healing nicely. All four were doing well.

The seven Sussex cattle were lying down together near ///luckier.polka.inkjet, just along from the Lookout at 10:45. Cow 211 was lying on her side, snoozing. Steers 197 and 210 were also resting their eyes. The other four cattle were relaxing and chewing their cud. All the Sussex cattle appeared happy and relaxed.

The cows were all good today and looked great, which is why there are so many photos of them.

    Thursday 29th August - All 25 seen

The seven Sussex cattle were grazing near ///desks.zips.dive at the Royal Pavilion end of the site at 17:10 this afternoon. They were all happy, relaxed, and looking well.

Eleven of Caesar's originals were grazing near ///sobs.blitz.sits at 17:25. Most were eating from the bramble bushes, while others munched on grass or tree leaves. They all seemed happy and relaxed. It was nice to see steer 21 grazing with the others today. Steer 227 took a break and came over for a back scratch.

Returning to the sandy bowl at 17:45, I found five of the Sussex cattle standing together on one of the grass islands. They were relaxing and chewing their cud. Steers 197 and 210 were grazing nearby. Cows 211 and 1396 were both very friendly and came over to say hello.

At 18:10, steers 20, 217, 222, 270, and 271, along with cows 214 and 234, were spread out grazing in the pasture near ///plug.pots.flags. Steer 20 was enjoying the sunshine and appeared more relaxed in the smaller group. There was no noticeable change to his wound, however. By 19:00, the cows had gradually moved northeast to the area around ///idea.trade.issues. They were all happy, relaxed, and looking well.

As I was leaving at 19:25, the seven Sussex cattle and steers 21, 33, 219, 220, 227 and 228 were gathered by the wooden bridge at the cow shed. Most were drinking from the stream. The others were making their way down and were spread out in the trees and bushes to the east.

The cows were all good today.

Wednesday 28th August - All 25 seen - newly replaced gate now has chain and padlock on it

Five of the Sussex cattle were grazing near ///milky.unite.retract at 17:00, all looking happy and relaxed. I spent some time searching for the other two. Cow 211 emerged from the thicket further along Longbottom at 17:40. She was her usual friendly self and enjoyed a long neck and shoulder rub. Steer 1626 finally came out of the thicket just before 18:00 and stood chewing his cud while being checked. They were all looking very well.

Cows 72 and 940, along with steers 30, 35, 227 and 228 were all happily grazing around ///pokes.weeps.encodes at 18:10.  They were all looking well.

Cows 214 and 234, along with steers 33 and 230, were lying down and relaxing near ///reefs.blanking.skins at 18:25. Steer 20 and yearlings 270 and 271 were grazing nearby, while steer 21 stood alone, chewing his cud near ///unsightly.evoke.frame. Steer 20 was grazing happily and moving well, though there was little blue spray left on his wound, which was open with some flies in the area. I’ll send the Grazing Team new photos in the morning.

The final four, youngsters 217, 219, 220 and 222, were grazing in the heather to the west around ///cubed.mere.adding a short time later. The boys were all doing well.

At 18:45, the cows in the latter groups began to move. Steers 33 and 230 headed towards the group of six. The remaining ten made their way to Horse Pond, where most took a drink. Steer 20 rested in the trees to the west of the pond, while steer 21 stayed just outside the trees, keeping an eye on him.

After a while, cows 214 and 234, along with steers 20, 217, 219, 220, 222, 270 and 271, walked southwest to the pasture near ///merely.trees.petal to graze on heather. Steer 21 stayed back initially before grazing in the thicket on the north side of the path. I remained with them until just after 19:15, and they were all fine.

The newly replaced gate at the eastern end of Sandy Hill now has a chain and a yellow MOD padlock on it. There was noticeable scrambler activity in the direction of Sandy Hill this evening, but I did not actually see the bikes at any point.

The cows were all good this evening.

    Tuesday 27 August 2024

    Tuesday 27th August - All 25 seen

A huge thanks to the Grazing Team for treating steer 20 this morning. He received lots of anti-inflammatory and antibiotic meds, and his wound has been thoroughly covered with antiseptic spray. Steers 35 and 230's injuries were also checked, and the entire herd was fly sprayed.

Taking advantage of the nice weather, I gave them an extra check this evening to ensure all was well. The eighteen originals were spread out in small groups, grazing among the bracken and heather parallel to Bourley Road at 17:25. Steer 20 was fine when I found him munching on long grass growing under the bracken. His wound looked clean, with plenty of blue spray still on it.  He was practically fly-free, which was great to see.  Although understandably nervous when other cows approached from behind, he remained calm and well-behaved.

The other cows were all looking good and were either munching on grass or enjoying the heather. Steers 21 and 35 were grazing together in the thicket west of the others. Steer 35 wandered through the bracken to say hello. He stood beside me for a while, which allowed me to check his graze, which was looking fine.

At 18:45, the seven Sussex cattle were together near ///lucky.barrel.flow. Steer 197 was lying down, relaxing and chewing his cud. The others were happily grazing nearby and were soon joined by steer 197.  Most were friendly and came over to say hello, with steer 1640 enjoying a head rub. Soon after, all seven climbed the hill to graze in the pasture on the other side of the path. Cow 211 took a break and came over for a long neck and ear rub, showing her appreciation with some affectionate head rubs and licks.  The group of seven was happy, relaxed, and looking well.

As I was leaving the site at 19:30, the group of eighteen had made their way to the west end of the site and were grazing in the pasture north of the covered reservoir.

The cows were all good this evening.
