Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Thursday 1st August - All 25 seen - Sandy Hill kissing gate has been replaced + grass on their favourite corner has been cut

Just after I arrived at Caesar's this afternoon at 17:00, the weather changed, and we were hit with a storm, accompanied by lots of thunder and lightning and heavy rain.  I'm afraid I decided to abandon my initial visit.

I did manage to make it back out after the weather calmed down and met a mixed group of thirteen cows all spread out grazing near the bottom of the Sandy Hill slope around ///exit.villa.dumps at 19:45.  The cows were all wet, but they didn't seem to mind and appeared to have enjoyed a refreshing shower after the recent warm weather. Several of them were very friendly and came to say hello.  Cow 211 wandered up and gave me some head rubs before enjoying a neck rub.  Steer 227 enjoyed his usual back rub.

Sussex cow 1396 and steer 1640 were a little further away from the others, grazing in the area around ///finest.lilac.curious at 20:05.  They were both looking good.

Cow 940 plus steers 30, 33, 217, 220, 228 and 230 were all grazing in the pasture to the north of James Bond pond near ///reef.grew.splinters at 20:20.  They, too, were all damp but were enjoying lots of grass and heather.  They were all happy, relaxed and looking well.

Yearling 270 was standing beside a pile of earth just to the northeast of James Bond pond.  He was in some mess, having clearly been rubbing his head in it.  He was fine though and was resting and chewing his cud.  Cow 72 and steer 222 were standing nearby and were both relaxing.  All three were good.

I noticed that the kissing gate at ///reflected.modes.crazy, nearest the pill box on Sandy Hill, has been swapped out.  This is the one that needed to be pushed down to lock it, so it was usually lying open.  It's currently padlocked, most likely because of the water pipe work.  However, it doesn't appear to have any cage or anything that would restrict what can pass through it, i.e. motorbikes.  I also noticed that someone had cut the grass and all the bracken and other thicket growing on the cows' favourite Sandy Hill corner.  Photos below.

The cows were all good this evening.
