Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Tuesday 13th August - All 25 seen - new photo of blemish on steer 228's face below

A mixed group of twenty-two cows were found on their favourite Sandy Hill corner at 16:30 this afternoon. Older steer 21 was standing having a scratch against the bushes on the fence line. Cow 211 was grazing, but quickly came over to say hello. She gave me some gentle head rubs before enjoying a back scratch. The others were all lying down. Most were relaxing and chewing their cud, with the others snoozing. Steer 21 and cow 211 soon also lay down. The cows were all happy, relaxed and looking well. There were a lot of flies around today, but the cows seemed to be coping with them.

The other three steers were found in the area near ///long.crunched.quest at the Shell garage end of the site at 17:15. Youngster 220 was lying down and chewing his cud. Steer 35 was standing nearby, relaxing and chewing his cud. Youngster 217 was initially grazing, but soon started to relax. The boys were all good. The army was conducting training on Sandy Hill today. Several squads walked past while I was with the cows on the corner. One squad followed me nearly the length of Sandy Hill when I went to find the three boys. Upon returning to the first group at 17:45, some of the cows had begun to get up and stretch. Steer 227 wandered over to say hello. Within ten minutes, they had all got up and started to head off in two groups. Steers 20, 30, 33 and 227 plus cows 72, 214 and 234 all wandered off east towards Hungry Hill. The others headed west along Sandy Hill, passing by another army squad sitting near the pill box. Youngsters 228 and 230 plus yearlings 270 and 271 held back and seemed very interested in the soldiers 😊. Below is a photo of the blemish on youngster 228's face for the Grazing Team. The area of secondary swelling has practically disappeared. It also appears the original swelling has gone down as well. I'll continue to keep a careful eye on him. Hopefully, he is on the mend.

The cows were all good today.
