Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Wednesday 28th August - All 25 seen - newly replaced gate now has chain and padlock on it

Five of the Sussex cattle were grazing near ///milky.unite.retract at 17:00, all looking happy and relaxed. I spent some time searching for the other two. Cow 211 emerged from the thicket further along Longbottom at 17:40. She was her usual friendly self and enjoyed a long neck and shoulder rub. Steer 1626 finally came out of the thicket just before 18:00 and stood chewing his cud while being checked. They were all looking very well.

Cows 72 and 940, along with steers 30, 35, 227 and 228 were all happily grazing around ///pokes.weeps.encodes at 18:10.  They were all looking well.

Cows 214 and 234, along with steers 33 and 230, were lying down and relaxing near ///reefs.blanking.skins at 18:25. Steer 20 and yearlings 270 and 271 were grazing nearby, while steer 21 stood alone, chewing his cud near ///unsightly.evoke.frame. Steer 20 was grazing happily and moving well, though there was little blue spray left on his wound, which was open with some flies in the area. I’ll send the Grazing Team new photos in the morning.

The final four, youngsters 217, 219, 220 and 222, were grazing in the heather to the west around ///cubed.mere.adding a short time later. The boys were all doing well.

At 18:45, the cows in the latter groups began to move. Steers 33 and 230 headed towards the group of six. The remaining ten made their way to Horse Pond, where most took a drink. Steer 20 rested in the trees to the west of the pond, while steer 21 stayed just outside the trees, keeping an eye on him.

After a while, cows 214 and 234, along with steers 20, 217, 219, 220, 222, 270 and 271, walked southwest to the pasture near ///merely.trees.petal to graze on heather. Steer 21 stayed back initially before grazing in the thicket on the north side of the path. I remained with them until just after 19:15, and they were all fine.

The newly replaced gate at the eastern end of Sandy Hill now has a chain and a yellow MOD padlock on it. There was noticeable scrambler activity in the direction of Sandy Hill this evening, but I did not actually see the bikes at any point.

The cows were all good this evening.
