Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Tuesday 27th August - All 25 seen

A huge thanks to the Grazing Team for treating steer 20 this morning. He received lots of anti-inflammatory and antibiotic meds, and his wound has been thoroughly covered with antiseptic spray. Steers 35 and 230's injuries were also checked, and the entire herd was fly sprayed.

Taking advantage of the nice weather, I gave them an extra check this evening to ensure all was well. The eighteen originals were spread out in small groups, grazing among the bracken and heather parallel to Bourley Road at 17:25. Steer 20 was fine when I found him munching on long grass growing under the bracken. His wound looked clean, with plenty of blue spray still on it.  He was practically fly-free, which was great to see.  Although understandably nervous when other cows approached from behind, he remained calm and well-behaved.

The other cows were all looking good and were either munching on grass or enjoying the heather. Steers 21 and 35 were grazing together in the thicket west of the others. Steer 35 wandered through the bracken to say hello. He stood beside me for a while, which allowed me to check his graze, which was looking fine.

At 18:45, the seven Sussex cattle were together near ///lucky.barrel.flow. Steer 197 was lying down, relaxing and chewing his cud. The others were happily grazing nearby and were soon joined by steer 197.  Most were friendly and came over to say hello, with steer 1640 enjoying a head rub. Soon after, all seven climbed the hill to graze in the pasture on the other side of the path. Cow 211 took a break and came over for a long neck and ear rub, showing her appreciation with some affectionate head rubs and licks.  The group of seven was happy, relaxed, and looking well.

As I was leaving the site at 19:30, the group of eighteen had made their way to the west end of the site and were grazing in the pasture north of the covered reservoir.

The cows were all good this evening.
